In India, the petroleum prices are kept deliberately high to promote the use of natural gas. India, in recent years has developed its own resource of Bio-gas and is thriving on it. At the moment, the energy basket of India has an equivalent share of Oil and biogas + Natural Gas.

Price of petrol in Dubai is 95 Pkr per liter right now. Considering UAE is a major oil producing country and the difference between Pakistan and Dubai is only is only 13 rps is remarkable!

It’s so idiotic to compare our fuel prices with west

there they have the minimum wage which every bum can achieve by doing plenty of available minimum wage jobs.
By working 40/hrs a week, even the lowest earning labour like supermarket staff or cafe employee can still live a moderately decent life.

so you have to see the per capita income and then make such comparisons.

It’s so idiotic to compare our fuel prices with west or India or China because they are using finest quality of Petroleum products and we are using obsolete quality of fuel.

It is worth noting that Pakistan has already been trailing behind the rest of the world by at least twenty years in terms of adapting up-to-date emission standards since Euro-II has long been deemed an obsolete fuel standard. Today many markets have opted for Euro-VI and it is high time for Pakistan to do something to catch up with the rest of the world.

Pakistan meets 30% of its annual fuel requirement through domestic refineries and imports around 70% of its remaining fuel needs. According to the Oil Ministry's Petroleum Division, mixing of imported and locally produced grades by the refineries and OMCs may also be allowed as it would improve overall specifications and compliance of the product.

Hi-Octane 97 Euro V is now available at fuel stations in Pakistan. It is a fuel standard that helps in reducing harmful vehicle emissions, which further minimizes the impact on the environment, thus benefitting the ecosystem while improving engine performance.

RON means Research Octane Number. At most retail gasoline stations, three octane grades are on sale, 87 (regular), 89 (premium), and 91-93 (hi-octane). The higher the octane number, the more resistant the gasoline mixture is to engine knocking. This enables greater engine efficiency and higher performance.

The fact that Pakistan is trailing behind in terms of octane grades available in the country and is reflected in former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi's views which he expressed when he was the Petroleum Minister during the Nawaz Sharif government. He stated that Pakistan was using the lowest standard of fuels (RON 87) and there was an urgent need to improve the quality of the petroleum products being produced by the local refineries as well as the products that are imported by the OMCs.

Where as india is using finst quality of fuel

India adopted Euro-III equivalent (or Bharat Stage-III) fuel with a sulphur content of 350 ppm in 2010 and then took seven years to move to BS-IV that had a sulphur content of 50 ppm. From BS-IV to BS-VI it took just three years.

"It was a conscious decision to leapfrog to BS-VI as first upgrading to BS-V and then shifting to BS-VI would have prolonged the journey to 4 to 6 years. Besides, oil refineries, as well as automobile manufacturers, would have had to make investments twice - f ..

Over the past few year, a number of countries in the Asia Pacific region have managed to implement stricter fuel specifications. However, it is not all smooth-sailing for the region as Malaysia delayed the implementation of 50 ppm sulfur limit for its RON 95 grade gasoline for the second time. Besides Malaysia, the Philippines had planned to require oil companies to sell 500 ppm sulfur diesel on the market alongside 50 ppm sulfur diesel, which was implemented nationwide since January 2016. The objective was to help ease the rising inflation rates in the second half of 2018, particularly for the operators of public utility vehicles. However, the plan was eventually abolished as oil prices retreated in late 2018. Overall, developing countries such as Bangladesh, Cambodia and Laos continue to trail behind rapidly developing and developed nations due to challenges in political and economic landscape, poor knowledge on fuel quality and prioritizing supply security over fuel quality. However, as air pollution worsens, the governments in the region are increasingly aware of the importance of fuel quality, and investments are gradually put in place to supply cleaner fuels.

Since 2017, automotive fuel spec changes have been implemented in China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. In particular, China aligned the sulfur limit of off-road diesel with on-road diesel at 10 ppm max from Jan. 1, 2018, and subsequently phased out the off-road diesel standard from Jan. 1, 2019 along with the implementation of specifications for China VIA gasoline and China VI diesel.
