Yes but Bajwa and Nadeem will never allow the non-combat military expenditure to go down. This is the head under which their expensive retirement packages come.

To do anything meaningful and reforming in Pakistan, military’s stranglehold on Pakistan politics need to be broken.

I have reservations to the most part of.... what the gentleman is saying. Please keep this in mind that the gentleman is a pro Nawaz guy (merely a businessman & was his adviser as well) and only sees everything from that prism..... just a tunnel vision. I would have preferred to hear views of any neutral economist.
Whenever the subject of imports is talked about everyone very vividly cites the example of pets food. Well, curtailing non developmental expenditure is one aspect which per se even if is acted upon will not bring desired results. So what is the solution???

In my view I will go for the model..... create opportunities for WEALTH CREATION. This model has worked in the contemporary era. Examples are China, Malaysia, UAE and dozens of other countries who have enormously benefitted from this model and now their economies and their GDPs are sky rocketing.... erstwhile Prime Minister Imran Khan was following this model. Despite close to a default economy he inherited, then COVID-19, non cooperative bureaucracy, global recession, high petroleum prices, treacherous opposition and you name it...... roadblocks at every corner. He adopted this model and brought the growth rate, GDP to 5.6%.
I would consider it a miracle and it brings back to my thesis that it is doable, it is workable.... provided their is a zeal to work, and work honestly.

When we talk of austerity in our country the incumbent govt will do few cosmetic things here and there, some photo sessions for few days and then everything goes back to normal. The biggest austerity measure they take is that the federal ministries instead of having 4 different newspapers will have only 2, one English and 2nd one Urdu.
This is their model of austerity to combat the menace of down sliding economy, SIC.

usse chhoti laanat secular khayalaat aur kaam hen jin ki wajah se insaan her taraf aapas main gutham gutha hen. her koi doosre per qaaboo paane ki sochta hai. yahee jang is duniya main insaanu ke darmiyaan jaari hai.

issi liye mazhab aur secularism ko replace kerne ki sakht zaroorat hai taa keh insaan aik doosre ka poora poora saath de saken aur aik doosre ke liye faaidamand kaam ker saken. issi liye logoon ko asal deene islam ko jaanane aur us ko apnaane ki ashad zaroorat hai. asla deene ioslam kia hai?
