Border markets to transform local economies, check smuggling: Bajwa

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has called for the government’s focus on the uplift of areas that were previously neglected, his special assistant on information and broadcasting retired Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa said on Tuesday.

In a Twitter post, Bajwa, who also heads the CPEC Authority, said out of the 18 approved border markets, three, including Mand and Gabd to be set up in Balochistan and ShaheedanoDan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have been approved as a pilot project.

These markets will transform local economies, check smuggling and formalise trade with neighbouring countries, he maintained.

On September 17, Prime Minister Imran Khan had accorded approval to set up trade markets along Pakistan’s borders with Afghanistan and Iran. Presiding over a high-level meeting in Islamabad, the PM gave approval to establish 12 markets along Pak-Afghan border and six markets along Pak-Iran border.

The meeting decided to take effective measures to eliminate the menace of smuggling. Briefing the meeting, an official said that the border markets will be made functional by February, 2021.

Its an excellent decision. Better would be if we built some high quality hospital near Afghan border to allow them a passage up to hospital only.

It will not serve only our local population as well as Afghan people as well.

Also keep these trade centres as bigger as possible even can be discussed with Iran and Afghanistan to construct same on their side as well with boundary walls to facilitate the trade.....................

There should be a medical city near Torkham border too ......
We are already catering to half of Afghanistan and now that Afghans have learned first hand the duping nature of indians , they are returning back to Pakistan.......
Now they give 250 dollars plus for visa .... Stay for only 15 days and all say a pet sentence that they went to ‘Hind’ last year , were not treated well so they have come back to Pakistani doctors ... :)
They also take back Pakistani meds in bucketful according to them due to ‘their quality’ ...... yup you heard that right with indian and Irani drugs infiltrating their market ....
Cherry on top is that they are mostly Persian speaking Afghans given free visa and cheap direct flights to India ...... :)

Good decision..this will improve trade between Iran.. Afghanistan.. Pakistan..same trade zone should also build other sides also...others facilities..like hospitals..etc also needed..
