An absolute game changer if implemented correctly.

The middleman is supposed to add some value to these things...but the only thing they hadd is a fat profit, hence their role is useless.

now wait for patwar brigade to come in and yelp on how many 'jobs will be lost because of this'.

Good but long term solution is adequate and well managed storage facilities along with crop management -Eliminate middleman but the farmers need stable prices.
Cut-throat competition among the farmers is not very good for the farmers and must be avoided.

There are no short-term one stop solutions. Food issues cannot be resolved by bureaucratic orders but by management and infrastructure development.
Punjab government should study other countries and adopt an appropriate model - good price for farmers and regular investment in the sector is the key for success.
Government may divert Youth loans to agri sector. Increase ADB loans. Middleman has an economic role and the state/farmer's committee has to assume that role.

A farmer is not a seller. To be a seller you need to have a different skill set and infrastructure. Farmers can either look after the crop or sell it into the market. This is not going to work

Farmer already selling it in Sabzi Mandi. If Farmer sells directly to small shops, they can get good profit.

Yes this will consume a lot of their time which they are already short of
Time? Time is not an issue at all. Rather excess labor in agri sector is the prime issue of Pakistan.. We have times excess rural labor compared to avaiable land and water. Excess labour stops mechanization and efficiency. Sunday markets create rural base employment opportunities - which we need badly. That's the main benefits. Farmer's market also generate food processing/packaging related job opportunities for households which further increases efficiency and income. Third benefit is direct cash inflow -which has certain poverty-reduction benefits. Social change and independence is another plus. These are all pluses and a few more.

However as I have commented above, I don't recommend farmer's market as an agri-policy and food/price management at all. This is not a solution either for farmer's wages or for consumer price - nor it is an efficient way to produce and manage food supply. Its scale is quite small to count as an agri-policy anyway. Our problems are structural , mechanization, efficiency , policy related and rural investment. Mehngai is a fake issue raised by urban middle class which doesn't wants to pay full price to farmers and exploit them - and politics is controlled by middle class for its own benefits. However all that needs long discussion to compare and assess various models which can be adopted in our circumstances I won't go there as it is not a thread about agri policy..
Nevertheless, our current Arhat (middleman) system is outdated, inefficient and exploitative especially for the farmers and villages. It puts little back to rural economy and profits are invested in cities. Problems or out current market system are well known. Another factor which has immensely harmed out farmers and distorted market in favor of middlemen is Nawaz policy of imports from India. That was almost a criminal policy and till now we are suffering from that policy.

some people will say middle man has experience. But middle man is criminal in Pakistan. Let farmers make money and create supply chain themselves. it will take time
