MQM decides against joining AJK cabinet

Karachi—MQM has reportedly decided not to join AJK cabinet, though it had helped PPP form govt there.

MQM had supported the PPP for the election of AJK Legislative Assembly speaker and deputy speaker as well as president and prime minister. However, afterwards the party is said to have decided not to join the AJK cabinet.

On the other hand, PPP die-hard workers from Muzaffarabad are down on their area not being allocated top positions in the AJK government.

Sources said that composition of 15-member AJK cabinet would take place tomorrow (Monday).—NNI

Babar Ghori will be mister of shipping , he will smuggle tones of weapon as usual , why are selling your houses just for a gun !!!

Just to kill people.

The solution of Karachi is in de-weaponization , not pouring tones of weapons.

But MQM could not live without TT or KK. may be of plastic.

Even a 15 years boy will keep plastic gun.

Political groups to blame for Karachi unrest: HRCP

Rehan Siddiqui

2 August 2011

KARACHI — Eleven more people including a policeman were killed and more than a dozen others injured on Monday in Karachi after a Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) report blamed powerful political groups for breakdown of law and order in the city.

Orangi Town became the latest battleground on Monday when two armed groups exchanged fire which continued intermittently throughout the day leaving at least three people dead and several injured.

The HRCP in its report after completing a fact-finding mission in Karachi to ascertain the causes of the latest wave of violence in the city said that the city is in the grip of a multi-sided wave of insecurity-driven political, ethnic and sectarian polarisation that has greatly undermined its tradition of tolerance and good-neighbourliness.

“Though the land-grabbers and mafias have tried to exploit the breakdown of law and order, they do not appear to be the main directors of the violence; that distinction belongs to more powerful political groups and it is they who hold the key to peace,” the report said.

The report said that the problems inherent in Karachi’s urban growth and expansion, being an industrial and commercial mega city, have not been tackled properly by the present or the previous governments.

“Problems of unemployment, housing, transport, education, health, supply of water, electricity and gas need to be sorted out with the help of civil society’s pool of talent and knowledge”, the report added.

The report also pointed out that nearly all political parties agree that it was necessary for all to respect each other’s position and desist from attempts of capture political mileage through violence.
While conducting the survey the HRCP received complaints against law enforcement agencies ranging from dereliction of duty, abandonment of posts, long delays in responding to distress calls to downright collusion with criminals.

MQM responsible for unrest, killings in Karachi: Ghauri

Staff Report

LAHORE: Mohajir Qaumi Movement Vice Chairman Shamshad Khan Ghauri has accused the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) for the unrest and killings in Karachi. He said this while addressing a press conference on Monday.

“The situation in Karachi is getting worse day by day and the whole city has become a slaughter house,” he said. Altaf Hussain requests for peace whereas in reality, his own party is responsible for the current unrest and target killings in Karachi, Ghauri claimed. MQM’s workers are being trained in South Africa by the Indian secret agency RAW, which is providing them with Israeli-made arms, a proof of which is Israeli arms and shells being recovered from places where such terror incidents took place, he said.

He said that MQM’s “armed terrorists” had installed iron gates at the entrances of Mohajir colonies just to stop entry of political workers, especially of their rival party Mohajir Qaumi Movement. “MQM has taken citizens as hostage after illegally occupying their properties,” Ghauri said, adding that the MQM had established a “state within a state”.

He said that peace could not be maintained until Altaf Hussain or law-enforcement agencies did not remove these iron gates and MQM’s checkposts at various points.

Police and law-enforcement agencies should be given full authority to deal with the criminals since most of the arrested target killers belonged to the MQM, Ghauri asserted, even adding that the MQM negotiated the release of these killers with the government through different meetings and pledged to support the government if its demands were met.

The MQM also asked the government not to send challans of these cases to the special courts, instead, the trials should take place in the civil courts, he informed. In these circumstances, Karachi police and law-enforcement agencies are helpless before the political high-ups, Ghauri said.

He also claimed that the MQM was terrorising journalists and the murder of Wali Khan Babar was its clear example, whose killers belonged to the MQM.

He said Karachi was a business hub and the government should save it by setting aside the “political under dealings” in order to halt the growing lawlessness and unrest.

Twenty-three lives lost as Karachi bleeds again
By S. Raza Hassan | From the Newspaper

KARACHI: Nearly two dozen people were on Monday shot dead, several others wounded and around 90 vehicles and some tea shops set ablaze in gun and arson attacks in different parts of the city, causing the Sindh home minister to approach the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Awami National Party to seek their support for what is being described as an indiscriminate action against culprits.

The strife-hit areas of the city witnessed 23 killings on the first day of the month, surpassing the daily average death toll of July during which a total of 318 people, including a few lawyers, had been killed.

In protest against the killings, representatives of the city and provincial associations of lawyers boycotted court proceedings and marched towards the Chief Minister’s House, demanding a judicial probe into the recent wave of violence.

The Surjani Town remained the worst-affected area with arson attacks on two minibuses, two trucks, several tea shops, eateries and pushcarts besides three killings.
Only a day ago, five people had been killed in the town.

In a major arson attack, at least 80 motorbikes were set on fire on the premises of a factory situated in the Sohrab Goth area.

No fire engine could rush to the spot because of security reasons.

When the SSP for district west was asked about the identity of the groups involved in the violence, he said that apparently the MQM and ANP were fighting it out. He said police had arrested some suspects involved in gun and arson attacks and also seized weapons found in their possessions.
However, the violence forced residents to stay indoors, traders to pull down shutters and transporters not to ply vehicles in the strife-hit areas.

Amid the renewed wave of violence, Home Minister Manzoor Wasan, in an attempt to muster their support and ease out the city’s volatile situation, visited the MQM headquarters, better known as Nine Zero, and met the members of the coordination committee of the party. They discussed the situation for over an hour and the minister assured the MQM leadership that their reservations would be addressed and requested the party to extend cooperation in bringing a durable peace to Karachi.

After meeting the MQM leaders, the minister reached the Mardan House, the ANP office, and met ANP leader Shahi Syed. They discussed the worsening law and order situation. The minister said the government wanted to take the parties on board before initiating an action.
