I remember when Fazlurehman called off his failed dharna, he was asked what he achieved from the exercise. And his response, along with a cunning smile was, "hum khali haath wapis nahin aye".
It seems like this verdict against Musharraf was what he was referring to. Perhaps someone told him that this verdict would be given, in an attempt to break the morale of the armed forces, and that would result in a weakened government, and as a result, the opposition would be in a stronger position to topple the govt. Seems like this news was leaked out by the judges to be fed to fazlurehman, in order to launch a combined 'strike' against the govt and army.
But as we have it, things seem to have backfired for both.....specifically the judiciary. The judiciary is reeling from the ignominy of the attack on PIC by their lawyers, and in the absence of any real criticism from the judges, the judiciary has drawn a lot of criticism and disgust towards them. This , combined with an overall lack of any meaningful decisions by the judiciary have resulted in the department being mocked openly. The number of lawyers that have openly called this judgement flat out 'wrong' is increasing daily. Everyone knows this verdict has no legs to stand on, and will be reversed, either on appeal, or by a presidential pardon.
The fact that the judges are happy to give a death sentence to a person on his death bed in a hospital, and a medical bail to walking and talking a-holes in Punjab and Sindh, has made them a laughing stock.
