Shahid Khaqan Abaasi turned a loss making entity into a profit making entity. Did Shahid Khaqan Abaasi appinted 10,000 employees during 1999-2008 and 3000 during PPP era??

Then PMLN should have the guts to turn towards their partners in opposition to the right, and call them out for destroying PIA. What is stopping them? Mutually assured destruction? or mutually assured benefits?

150 out of 434 pilots are called out for dubious licenses. I admit that Im not satisfied with the number, as it seems way too shoddy, even for Pakistan. The criterion used by PIA, CAA and govt, to filter out 'dubious licenses' was shoddy at best, and was based on a very broad assumption that it is difficult, if not impossible for a pilot to operate a flight and take an exam on the same day.
I expect most of these 150 to be exonerated. However, there is a deep internal rot in all govt institutions, like PIA, Pak steel etc, that has been nurtured by PPP and PMLN for years. We all know what the 'air league' is, and what they had done over the years.

Read the article again. The plane was an Airbus-310 which were grounded by PIA back in 2011. The plane was sold to German Museum for $1.4 million with the permission on CAA, Gen. Kayani's brother was head of CAA at that time. Bernd Hildenbrand only traveled back to his native country after retirement. PIA has still 20 of these types of air-crafts with no buyers, as no other country allowes these types of planes to fly anymore.

Thanks for clarifying that it was Gen Kayani's Brother who did corruption in this sale and nothing to do with PMLN leadership. Are u sure PIA has 20 Airbus-310 for sale? Please share the process where can I find details?

Please explain mhafeez what are the meanings of wet lease?

14 CFR 110.2 defines a “wet lease” as “any leasing arrangement whereby an airline agrees to provide an entire aircraft and at least one crewmember.” (Note no reference to fuel.) Ordinarily, the parties entering into wet lease arrangements are certificated air carriers such as airlines operating under 14 CFR Part 121 and charter operators conducting operations under 14 CFR Part 135. However, 14 CFR 91.501(c) provides for certain timesharing and interchange arrangements in which both the aircraft and crew are provided together. And although these arrangements are considered wet leases because they include both aircraft and crew, they are 14 CFR Part 91 operations in which the parties to the transactions do not need to be air carriers.
In a dry lease arrangement, the aircraft owner is providing the aircraft to the lessee without crew. Neither the lessor nor the lessee is required to hold an air carrier certificate, although an air carrier may be a lessor or lessee under a dry lease.
One of the key issues that distinguishes a wet lease from a dry lease is “who has operational control” as defined in 14 CFR 1.1. In a “wet” lease situation, because the lessor is providing both aircraft and crew, the lessor maintains operational control of all flights. In a “dry” lease situation, the lessee provides its own crew and the lessee exercises operational control of its flights.
A lessee under a dry lease is permitted to operate under 14 CFR Part 91 and is not required to comply with many of the more restrictive and costly requirements of Parts 121 or 135. And federal excise tax is not due on the amounts paid by the lessee to the lessor, although sales tax is often assessed on the lease rate. For private operators, these are significant advantages. However, they also need to be weighed against the responsibilities, and potential liability, that go along with having operational control of a 14 CFR Part 91 dry lease operation.
When reviewing a leasing arrangement, the FAA will look beyond the actual written agreements to determine the relationships between the parties. Although a lease may be written as a dry lease and the agreement says “Dry Lease,” for example, that doesn’t mean the FAA can’t take the position that the arrangement is really being conducted as a wet lease in disguise. If the FAA takes that position when the lessor who is actually operating the aircraft for the lessee does not have an air carrier certificate, then that could be a problem for the lessor, and potentially for the lessee as well.

It is important to understand the difference between wet and dry leases because each situation has separate regulatory obligations and requirements. Failure to comply with the legal requirements applicable to the chosen lease structure can result in problems for both the lessor and the lessee.

The decision was taken by that government because the passengers were complaining about the quality of service, to improve the quality of service a new airline was created. It suffered a loss of $14 million or 1.5 billion. Current government is accumulating the losses at the tune of $36 million per month 6 billion a month 72 billion a year.
