The sports in which pakistan was actually good at vs Cricket.

So much money is being put into cricket in pakistan , despite pakistan being mediocre at cricket save from early 80s to late 90s. Even in those years Pakistan wasnt number one.
For last two decades , pakistan has been a mediocre team. Pakistan have failed to even draw a test match in australia let alone win it in last 27 years. We only reached once in semifinals in last 5 world cups. Yet a lot of money is being poured into cricket.

Pakistan had a glorious past in hockey but lack of finances and facilities killed the game in pakistan. Pakistan has record 4 world cups in hockey , 3 champions trophies , three times olympic champions and 8 times asian games champions. These are amazing numbers.


In squash pakistan had gems like jahangir khan and jansher khan but later lack or modern facilities and training meant that we lagged behind in that game as well.

Pakistan need more sports , cricket is a game of few colonial countries and played only by english , austrlalians and few other of their past colonies. If you look at teams of UAE , Oman , qatar , UsA you will find that most of their players are of desi descent.

We need the government to back sports like football , tennis , table tennis , badminton and other games.

Until Pakistan develops professional standards and proper facilities, it will never be good at any sports..
When ever Pak did well in any sports, it was based on the sheer talent. When a sports evolves and demands more than just sheer talent, Pak performance goes down the hill.

The whole of hockey game has changed in the last two decades. Pak might still be producing talented players but zero handworkers and that is the dilemma

The game of cricket has transformed altogether as well but more so than that we lost a generation of raw talent to spot fixing. If amir and asif were there we would be doing quite well and they would have also inspired the next generation of bowlers as well

Everyone wants to get into cricket, as there is money in cricket, and unless there is money in other sports, less people will be interested in those sports - and because less people are interested in even viewing those sports, there is not enough money in them.

Plus cricket is a sport where you need much less equipment then hockey, so easier for everyone to play. But I'm also surprised where more kids dont play football.

It is disappointing that football has been neglected in Pakistan.Football is the most popular sport in the world.Pakistan can setup a football league similar to PSL.Every major city should have it’s own football team.Big cities like Lahore and Karachi can have more than one team.I know money is the problem but if there is passion for football them the public will go and see matches.In UK up to 50000 people go to football matches even though tickets are very costly.

You are right that other sport has been neglected but your claims about our cricket performances and finances are not true. Firstly, no money has been poured into cricket. Not a single taxpayer money goes into it. PCB earns its own money through ICC or through home series. but yes taxpayer money is being spent on security.
As far as our performances go, in 12 fifty over world cups, we twice reached the final and won it once. We played 6 semifinals. And our win-loss ratio is 4th best.
In six T20 world cups, we reached the semifinals at 4 of them.
