Armenia's foreign ministry has said it "stands ready to engage" with France, Russia and the US on halting six days of fighting with its neighbour Azerbaijan.
Casualties have mounted in the southern Caucasus with both sides accusing each other of launching deadly attacks.
The conflict around the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh erupted on Sunday.
The enclave is officially part of Azerbaijan but run by ethnic Armenians.
The two former Soviet republics went to war over the territory between 1988 and 1994, eventually declaring a ceasefire, and they have never reached a settlement over the dispute.
France, Russia and the US, which co-chair the OSCE Minsk mediation group, have called for a ceasefire, but so far Azerbaijan has not given a positive response to proposed talks.
In the latest fighting, Azerbaijan forces said they had made further advances, but accused Armenia of artillery attacks on four villages, causing civilian casualties.
Armenia says it has shot down seven drones flying near the capital, Yerevan, but the claim has been rejected by Azerbaijan.

What hope of a ceasefire?
In a joint statement on Thursday, the presidents of France, Russia and the US called for an "immediate cessation of hostilities between the relevant military forces".
Armenia's foreign ministry responded on Friday, saying it was ready to engage with the three OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs "to re-establish a ceasefire regime based on the 1994-1995 agreements".
Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev has so far rejected talks, and his main ally, Turkey, has said a lasting ceasefire depends on "Armenians' withdrawal from every span of Azerbaijani territory"

Armenia is a poor country, Azerbaijan economy is 6 times bigger and population 3 times bigger.

Muslim or non Muslim its a tragedy when human lives are lost, whether Kashmir, Yemen, Palestine, Iraq or Armenia.

Azerbaijan being the bigger and stronger country has a responsibility towards the smaller Armenia. Unfortunately there is no easy solution to this problem. Armenians hold territory which is officially recognized as Azeri territory, but at the same time the people who live there are Armenians and if they do referendum there as we are asking for in Kashmir, those people will vote for Armenia.

Dont look at the world from just Muslim or Non-Muslim lens, the actual issues are much more complicated than that. If you go back in history there was no Azerbaijan, the entire territory was Armenia.

Only back to 1991 when Armenia agreed to reliquish claims to all Azeri territory, the helicopter was carrying politicians from Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan to sign the peace deal so that the two people who have coexisted in peace since century can continue doing that...

And then do you know what happened? That helicopter was shot down by Russian intelligence and war erupted. Turkey and Russia do not want peace in Armenia and Azerbaijan they want to divide and rule.

Genetically both Armenians and Azeris are the same people, both had been living together as brothers since centuries, but when you involve religion in anything, people get killed, suffering happens and injustice happens.

Every time sane minds come together from both sides of borders to talk peace Turkey and Russia step in and they sabotage it. They want blood not peace.

All sensible politicians in Azerbaijan who wanted peace were assassinated and the biggest beneficiary of this was Russia.

There are still sensible people on both sides of borders by sadly some *na maloom afrad* are calling the shots and young boys from poor families in Azerbaijan and Armenia are falling victim to Russian and Israeli technology.

Its sad to see people in Pakistan and Turkey glorifying the killings as if they have recaptured Palestine or Kashmir taking out all their anger on hapless Armenians who have no where to go or run.

Armenia and Azerbaijan issue is basically like Durand Line, both countries were so intermixed together that even in Yerevan there were districts with majority Azeris and territories in Azerbaijan used to have Armenian majority, they intermingled and live together in peace for long time.

War is not the direction they want to go in.

Thats an old fact 20+ years old. Business of selling weapons is at stake and people want to make a buck or two.
