It will be very unfortunate if the idea of Presidential system is killed once again. 80 percent of world's countries follow presidential system. Parliamentary system is a white elephant and extremely expensive for a country like Pakistan. Simply changing faces/parties without changing the system will be futile as it has amply proved. Referendum on the matter should be held forthwith and implemented without delay. Even the IMF should demand it, otherwise economic woes will sink Pakistan into default, one reason for it being the colossal overhead expenses of governance (along with collateral corruption) in Pakistan, due to the parliamentary system.

Presidential system would put an end to exploitation by religious and regional parties. They would never approve it, but it should be brought about regardless. Even if it means what Fazlur Rahman is saying.

What the gentleman is saying in the video is not only thought provoking but the need of the hour. Presidential system is a down graded version of the system of ‘Meritocracy‘, or we can call it the ‘next best thing’. The only point to consider is, if we attach the word ‘Islamic’ with it, we would not be able to honour the name, It would open up controversies of “which Islamic system? that of of Sunnis, Shias, Barelvis, Deobandi etc etc?. and end up in a puddle. .It would be better to implement the Islamic principles in consonance with universal laws of humanity but not put the label of “Islamic” on it. After all the present name of Pakistan is “Islamic republic” but how many hands are chopped for theft.?
Now that the iron is hot, the true and selfless patriots of Pakistan (if any) should strike without second thoughts at whatever cost it may incur.
