If you were born but do not feel like you believe in it then it is upto you to decide and what you believe in is true. It is good to ask questions, expand your horizons, and be authentic. I don’t know why you are asking this question.
However, if you are personally interested, understand that doubt as an entity can never precede existence as an entity. Also doubt relies on this (Primary) Existence/God as an entity. In other words,doubt/query/uncertainty are creations that are reliant on the primary Existence/God. Logically, it can never work the other way around though. Otherwise, one would have to doubt their own existence which logically should make all questions moot including doubting one’s existence. Therefore, as far as reasoning is concerned, this one is unassailable which no data can possibly refute. The Quran also confirms this and is a positive proof. I understand it can be extremely difficult to stay steadfast and consistent when someone is imposing it on you without giving any reason and the environment, which includes seculars and the so-called “religious people” , stands in contradistinction to the teachings and our nature. Nonetheless, leave such people to their business, think for yourself, reflect and follow this advice “Say, ˹O Prophet, that Allah says,˺ “O My servants who have exceeded the limits against their souls! Do not lose hope in Allah’s mercy, for Allah certainly forgives all sins.1 He is indeed the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” 39:53 May Allah make it easy!

My understanding is the ruling holds and the person who left islam is given an opportunity to explain why he left islam and an attempt is made to remove his objections about islam.

All the religions want us to fall into a line and follow the teachings. I haven't studied other religions well enough to go deep into them , but Islam I have. When there comes a concept of a creator then there come some guidelines as well for the creatures like us. There is concept of jaza and saza and then jannat and dozakh , going into jannat/dozakh for an eternity.

Both in Christianity and Islam it is said that most of the humans will go to hell. If the creator already knows that most of the humans will go to hell then why he created us at the first place?

Despite the ayah you have quoted in the the end there is a Hadith which says that majority of the humans will burn in hell. Why a God so merciful will burn majority of humans in hell?
