How Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb constructed Kashivishwanath Temple in Varanasi after the Rape of the Ra

Some Indian Propagandists use images of such temples to spread bigotry and hatred against Mughals and their decendant Muslim Pakistanis and Indians of the subcontinent.

Their complain that Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb destroyed Kashivishwanath Temple in Varanasi and hence all Muslim mosques which they will deem to be eligible should be destroyed in retaliation. A classic example is Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.

But what the fail to mention is why some temples were destroyed and what was the complete story behind them because doing so will Badly expose their blatant lies.

Kashivishwanath is one such example lets take a look at its story.

Aurangzeb didnt destroy this temple the Hindu Maharajas travelling with him requested it after the Maharani of Kutch was raped in the dungeon of this mandir. Here is an excerpt from one of the many hindu historians attesting to this :

DEMOLITION OF KASHI VISHWANATH TEMPLE

Dr. Pande’s research showed that Aurangzeb was as solicitous of the rights & welfare of his non-Muslim subjects as he was of his Muslim subjects. Hindu plaintiffs received full justice against their Muslims respondents &, if guilty, Muslims were given punishment as necessary.

One of the greatest charges against Aurangzeb is of the demolition of Vishwanath temple in Varanasi. That was a fact, but Dr. Pande unraveled the reason for it. “While Aurangzeb was passing near Varanasi on his way to Bengal, the Hindu Rajas in his retinue requested that if the halt was made for a day, their Ranis may go to Varanasi, have a dip in the Ganges & pay their homage to Lord Vishwanath. Aurangzeb readily agreed. “Army pickets were posted on the five mile route to Varanasi. The Ranis made journey to the palkis. They took their dip in the Ganges & went to the Vishwanath temple to pay their homage. After offering puja (worship) all the Ranis returned except one, the Maharani of Kutch. A thorough search was made of the temple precincts but the Rani was to be found nowhere.

“When Aurangzeb came to know about this, he was very much enraged. He sent his senior officers to search for the Rani. Ultimately they found that statue of Ganesh (the elephant – headed god) which was fixed in the wall was a moveable one. When the statue was moved, they saw a flight of stairs that led to the basement. To their horror they found the missing Rani dishonored & crying deprived of all her ornaments. The basement was just beneath Lord Vishwanath’s seat.”

The Raja demanded salutary action, & “Aurangzeb ordered that as the sacred precincts have been despoiled, Lord Vishwanath may be moved to some other place, the temple be razed to the ground & the Mahant (head priest) be arrested & punished.”

He left the old mandir in place and constructed a new mandhir nearby for Lord Vishwanath. Since a new temple was constructed the Hindus had nothing to do with the old place of worship so overtime the Masjid was constructed in such a way to not harm the historical remains of the old temple and to serve as a reminder for what had happened.

"During one of his military campaigns, Aurangzeb and his army had spent time near the temple. During the stay, he not only visited the temple but also offered grant and land for its maintenance. This fact is mentioned on the 'Dharma Dand' (religious pillar) situated on the temple premises," Kesherwani told TOI.

"The pillar has 15 sentences in Sanskrit inscribed on it mentioning, 'The ruler of the country visited the temple in 1674 and gave heavy grants to the temple, both in form of land and money'," said Kesherwani, lamenting that regular use of vermilion on the pillar, situated near Lord Hanuman's idol, had made the inscription illegible.


He said the fact also finds mention in the writings of former Allahabad mayor Vishamber Nath Pandey, who later became the governor of Odisha. "Speaking in Rajya Sabha on July 27, 1977, Pandey informed the House that during his tenure as chairman of Allahabad Nagar Palika, a dispute over the temple came before him. One of the parties presented documents regarding grants by Aurangzeb, both in terms of land and money. The matter was later referred to a committee headed by Justice TB Sapru. The committee sought documents from all temples that received 'jagir' (land) or money as donation from Aurangzeb," Kesherwani said.

He said that several temples, including Maha Kaleshwar temple of Ujjain, Balaji temple of Chitrakoot, Umanand temple of Guwahati, Jain temples of Saranjay and some temples of South India, produced such testimonials before the committee headed by Justice Sapru.



Another historian of Allahabad University, Prof Yogeshwar Tiwari, supported the contention. "Akbar too provided grant to the temple to show his 'praja' (common man) that he was the ruler of everyone. Patronizing Hindu temples was one such act. As far as Someshwar Mahadev temple is concerned, Aurangzeb might have given or even hiked the grants," Tiwari said.

Chitrakoot: Contrary to his image as a an orthodox and fanatic Muslim ruler, Mughul emperor Aurangzeb got a beautiful temple built in Chitrakoot (UP) on the banks of river Mandakini ***** as a token of Hindu-Muslim unity. For bhog etc in this temple, money was also provided from the royal treasury and this tradition is continuing till today in the form of government help.

Three hundred and thirty-three years ago Emperor Aurangzeb issued a firman (royal edict) for providing one silver rupee per day and allotment of 330 bighas of land of eight villages as necessary funds for the raj bhog and worship etc in this temple. This royal firman of 19 Ramadan in 35th year of his rule still exists in this temple in which it is written: “Royal order of the King is that eight villages namely Hanota, Chitrakoot…. Manak Poora are gifted to Sant Balak Dasji of Chitrakoot under Allahabad province’s Kalinger Pargana in honour of Shri Thakur Balaji for his pooja and raj bog.” The firman said, “330 bighas of cultivable land without lagan (land tax), together with one rupee daily from the lagan of Koni Paroshtha Pargana should be given.” This firman was implemented literally by the then local ruler Panna Naresh Maharaj Hindupat. After this, British government also continued it, for which written orders exist. After Indepedence and abolition of Zamindari system, some grants were given by the government to the Mahant.

Mughal era art of architecture is clearly evident in this temple. In this connection, Prof. Kamlesh Thapak of ancient history in Chitrakoot Gramoddya University says that for building this temple, Aurangzeb had entrusted the responsibility of staying in Chikrakoot and looking after the building and construction of the temple to his most trusted commander Ghairat Khan. Aurangzeb had got this temple built as a symbol of Hindu Muslim-unity, he says.

However, today this mandir is shedding tears on the negligence and insensitivity of subsequent rulers. People have occupied lands around the temple. Hudnreds of bighas of its lands have been occupied by musclemen. They have even prepared forged documents and patras taking advantage of the ailing 100-year old Mahant Narain Das of the temple.

The temple has been mentioned in the Puranas including the Kashi Khanda (section) of Skanda Purana. The original Vishwanath temple was destroyed by the army of Qutb-ud-din Aibak in 1194 CE, when he defeated the Raja of Kannauj as a commander of Mohammad Ghori. The temple was rebuilt by a Gujarati merchant during the reign of Delhi's Sultan Iltutmish (1211-1266 CE). It was demolished again during the rule of either Hussain Shah Sharqi (1447-1458) or Sikandar Lodhi (1489-1517). Raja Man Singh built the temple during Mughal emperor Akbar's rule, but orthodox Hindus boycotted it as he had let the Mughals marry within his family.

Raja Todar Mal further re-built the temple with Akbar's funding at its original site in 1585.[SUP][3][/SUP]

In 1669 CE, Emperor Aurangzeb destroyed the temple and built the Gyanvapi Mosque in its place.[SUP][4][/SUP] The remains of the erstwhile temple can be seen in the foundation, the columns and at the rear part of the mosque.[SUP][5

More than half of Indian households don't have a toilet

With over 600 million people in India or 53 per cent of Indian households defecating in the open, the absence of toilets/latrines is one of the major contributors to malnutrition, a World Bank report has said.
The report that released Monday on the eve of the first ever UN World Toilet Day, the World Bank said, access to improved sanitation can increase cognition among children.
Currently, more than 2.5 billion people worldwide lack access to toilets, one billion people practise open defecation -- about 600 million in India.
“Our research showed that six-year-olds who had been exposed to India’s sanitation programme during their first year of life were more likely to recognise letters and simple numbers on learning tests than those who were not,” said Dean Spears, lead author of the paper ‘Effects of Early—Life Exposure to Sanitation on Childhood Cognitive Skills’
The paper studies the effects on childhood cognitive achievement of early life exposure to India’s Total Sanitation Campaign, a national scale government programme that encouraged local governments to build and promote use of inexpensive pit latrines. “This is important news — the study suggests that low-cost rural sanitation strategies such as India’s Total Sanitation Campaign can support children’s cognitive development,” Spears said.
The results also suggest that open defecation — going outside without using a toilet or latrine — is an important threat to the human capital of developing countries and that a programme accessible to countries where sanitation development capacity is lower could improve average cognitive skills.
“Open defecation lies at the root of many development challenges, as poor sanitation and lack of access to toilets impact public health, education, and the environment,” said Jaehyang So, Manager of the World Bank’s Water and Sanitation Project.
A World Bank working paper released earlier this year found that children exposed to more faecal germs don’t grow as tall as other children with less exposure. Studies have shown physical height is an important economic variable reflecting health and human capital.

India is the largest recipient of loans from the World Bank, amounting to $102.1 billion, between 1945 and 2015 (as on July 21, 2015), according to the Bank’s lending report.

While the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), a part of the World Bank group, has lent $52.7 billion, the International Development Association (IDA), a multilateral concessional lender of World Bank, has loaned $49.4 billion to India over the last 70 years.
The Ministry of Finance tabled an updated figure of $103 billion (IBRD—$53 billion and IDA—$50 billion) in a reply to the Lok Sabha (Parliament’s lower house) last month.
India’s loans from the World Bank stand at $104 billion (IBRD—$54 billion and IDA—$50 billion) as on December 31, 2015. Of this, the World Bank has disbursed $73 billion, with India repaying $37 billion.
India is followed by Brazil ($58.8 billion), China ($55.6 billion), Mexico ($54 billion) and Indonesia ($50.5 billion).
The World Bank has been lending funds to India for rural and urban development projectsrelated to transport, water and irrigation, health, power and agriculture.

IBRD is the world’s largest development bank and hopes to eliminate poverty by 2030. IDA is the largest multi-lateral source of concessional finance to boost growth and cut poverty.
While IBRD provides loans and assistance to primarily middle-income countries, IDA helps the world’s poorest nations.


World Bank (including IBRD and IDA) assistance in 2015 was $42.4 billion, as on July 21, 2015. Africa ($11.6 billion) was the largest recipient, followed by South Asia ($7.9 billion).

IBRD is committed to lend $23.5 billion in fiscal 2015; IDA, $18.9 billion.
India received 9% ($2.1 billion) of IBRD commitments, the largest to any country in 2015 and, after Bangladesh, the second-largest ($1.7 billion) in terms of IDA assistance ($1.9 billion).
Water, sanitation and flood projects in India received the most World Bank funding (27%), followed by finance (19%), transportation (18%), education (11%), public administration and law (10%), agriculture (8%), health and social service (4%), information and communication (2%), and energy and mining (1%).

India received a loan of $3.8 billion in 2015, the largest in the sub-continent, followed by China ($1.8 billion) in East Asia and Pacific, Nigeria ($1.5 billion) in Africa, Ukraine ($1.3 billion) in Europe and Central Asia, Morocco ($1.1 billion) in the Middle East and North Africa and Brazil ($0.6 billion) in Latin America and the Caribbean region.
