If Musharraf would've been poor, he would've been behind bars: Nawaz

QUETTA: There is a huge disparity in the implementation of laws on poor and the ruling elite in Pakistan, said Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif while expressing his views regarding the recent Musharraf saga on Friday.
The PML-N chief was addressing the media during his visit to Balochistan. Nawaz had gone to give his condolences to president of the PML-N Balochistan chapter Sardar Sanaullah Zehri who recently lost his son, brother and nephew in an attack on their convoy
on their way back from an election campaign.
“If any common man would have done what Musharraf did, then he would’ve surely been behind bars right now,” said Nawaz in reference to Musharraf’s escape and then house arrest. “Why was he escorted home safely by Islamabad police? Because he was an army chief earlier?”
“This is clearly contempt of court on police’s behalf,” he called out to the judiciary, asking them to take action against the authorities who allowed the ex-president to escape from court premises.
“The whole world is looking at us and we need to prove to them that we are law abiding citizens.”
Speaking on the security situation in Balochistan, Nawaz said that the polls should be held as per schedule and delaying them will not cure the disease of terrorism.
“Sanaullah Zehri is a test case for police in Balochistan, they should learn from this and ensure security to people of Balochistan,” Nawaz said. “It is the responsibility of both the provincial and federal government to secure Balochistan.
