PPP flays MQM's slander campaign
Islamabad, May 26, 2007: The Pakistan Peoples Party slammed the Muttahida Qaumi Movement for diverting the public attention over May 12 manslaughter by initiating a slander campaign against the members of the PPP.
The MQM has been facing a barrage of criticism from national and international press and civil society bodies for its active role in the May 12 bloodshed in Karachi. The Party that controls the City Government in Karachi also holds the seat of the governor of the province. In order to show its prowess in the financial hub of the country, the party made use of its official powers and blocked all-important routes of the city to curb the citizens' movement. It disarmed the police and the rangers rendering them helpless to prevent any acts of violence that day. The Karachi carnage claimed 48 lives, mostly common citizens and the political workers. Altaf Hussain Says Idea of Pakistan Was Dead at Its Inception
Leader of the Sindh-based political party MQM, Mr Altaf Hussain stunned his audience at an international conference on Friday declaring that the "idea of Pakistan was dead at its inception. "
The NDTV quoted him as saying: "The division of the subcontinent was the biggest blunder...it was not the division of land, it was the division of blood. "
He wants India to open its doors to every Mohajir, the Muslim refugees who went to Pakistan after the partition. "I appeal to the politicians here to forgive the people who left and let them return, " said Hussain.

The two-storey stone mansion that Dr Ishrat-Ul-Ebad Khan lives in as the governor of the Pakistani province of Sindh is surrounded by magnificent lawns and protected by armed guards.
It has two grand entrances, more than a dozen bedrooms, oak floors in the main reception rooms and separate quarters for the staff who see to Dr Khan's every need.

ISLAMABAD Karachi-based ethnic Muttahida Qaumi Movement party is included in the list of foreign terrorist organisations, furnished by a US research institute that exclusively works on terrorism.
The National Memorial Institute for Preventing Terrorism (MIPT), funded by the US Homeland Security Department, considers the MQM as a terrorist outfit and brackets it with dozens of other Pakistan-based militant outfits.
