a small set of islands built their wealth upon pillaging the world. when forced to get out, hired cheap labors from former colonies. when public opinion turned against the foreign looking people, got cheap labor from similar looking people (east europe). When racism raised its ugly head again, instilled a belief that this set of people and dirt were something special. hubris much.
