I understand that many people are hoping for American pressure on the Pakistani establishment to put an end to the ongoing victimization and lawfare since 2022. However, I believe supporters of Imran Khan might be setting themselves up for disappointment. While Trump may oppose the American establishment on issues like Ukraine and other policies, his primary focus remains domestic. Regarding Pakistan, I think he is likely to continue Biden's policies. This is because it is not in the United States' interest to lose influence to China in Pakistan or risk its political leverage over the corrupt Pakistani Army. The U.S. has invested significant resources in this institution for decades. I don't believe they will openly support democracy in Pakistan if it jeopardizes their strategic interests.
