LAHORE – The issue of occupation of GOR-I residences and luxurious official vehicles by some favourite retired bureaucrats of the provincial government continue its grip over the Punjab Assembly on Tuesday.
While, the members also raised hue and cry over the corruption in data entry section of the excise and taxation department. The session on Tuesday started with a delay of 52 minutes with Speaker Punjab Assembly, Rana Muhammad Iqbal in the chair.
Ajasim Sharif, parliamentary secretary for excise and taxation department replying queries regarding the corruption in department’s data entry section for the registration of the vehicles ensured the members that stern action would be taken against the corrupt elements.
The members demanded immediate action against the corrupt elements in the excise and taxation department, besides suspending the officers before initiating inquiries against them. They also raised the issue of posting of the alleged corrupt officers for long periods. The parliamentary secretary in his reply claimed that it was the clear policy of the provincial government that no officer would serve at a station more than three years.
Meanwhile, on a point of order by Shaukat Basra regarding occupation of GOR-I residences and usage of luxurious official vehicles by some favourite retired bureaucrats, the Speaker sought report from the provincial government. Shaukat Basra on a point of order said that some senior retired bureaucrats were still enjoying official perks and privileges in violation of rules by occupying residences in GOR-I and several luxury vehicles.
He maintained that IGP (Retd) Jehanzeb Barki was using two official vehicles Prado LEG-410 and Corolla LEG-09-265, another retired IGP, Tariq Masood Khosa was using Corolla LEG-07-4217, Waseem Ahmed Additional IG (Retd) LEG-07-4992, Arshad Saeed IG (Retd) Corolla LRZ-3007 and Corolla LEG-07-1320 and Pervaiz Rathore Additional IG (Retd) LEG-09-2179. While, the officers occupying the official residences even after their retirement at GOR-1 include Syed Safdar Javed Syed 10 Golf Road, Zia-ur-Rehman 12 Danepur Lane and Hamayun Farshori in 11 Golf Road. Col (Retd) Naveed moved the attention of the Speaker towards a former MPA who had recently joined PML-N and was heading allegedly a land grabbing group in Bahawalpur.
