I have been using the word "اسلام علیكم" for may be last twenty years on phone... and I dont need a fatwa for telling me whether it is preferable or not.... Secondly it gives you extra rewards in the form of ٹواب and there are so many virtues of spreading "Salam" among ourselves.... and I would prefer it in any case as it is a better alternative than aping the West....

Its nice that you use Aslam u alikum.. but the did not say that you stop to say aslam u alikum. I think also that Aslam u Alikum is better then Helloooooooooooooooooooooooo...

اسلام علیكم" kehtay howay kya sharam ... balkay hamain new generation ko yeh adat dalni chyay k Say "اسلام علیكم" first and than talk...

Assalam-u-Alaikum is best, you get sawab for doing practically nothing, and it really promotes love and peace among ourselves. Allah told us how to greet so no need for a fatwa.

No doubt it is best to say السلام و عليكم when meeting/starting conversation with a Muslim. But as per my knowledge(kindly correct if wrong) it can only be said to Muslims.
What it seems that they gave this fatwa because someone had said the Hello comes from the word Hell...

Depends, to whome u r talking...

Talking to french, german or English person, Salam will not work, becuse he could not understand your greetings...So u greet them in there language..

Where as talking to Muslim , must say السلام و عليكم

I saw jews, saying , Good evening or good morning during walks, where as engish used to say, Hi, os say nothing....

I think , the jews style is better.

Decide first , which fatwa u will follow

Actually, the word Hello is attached to phone in our mind.

This is visual an sound connect in the mind.

Just break it and use word u like.dont need fatwa...
