Dubai: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s latest tweet is showing a picture of Pakistan that is not often shared.

Posting pictures from scenic locations in Pakistan, Khan tweeted: “From our beaches in the south to Fairy Meadows in the north, and the rich history of our Land, Pakistan has unlimited potential for developing eco-friendly tourism. This is a commitment we are determined to fulfill InshaAllah.”

The tweet was retweeted and liked thousands of times, with tweeps adding their own pictures from mountains and valleys to lakes and rivers.
Tweeting in Urdu, @anniesehar1 wrote: “The beautiful valley of Gilgit, Baltistan. The beauty of our country is ahead of Switzerland.”

The United Nations Development Programme has also been promoting eco-tourism in the country. They partnered with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to develop campsites in the most scenic locations in the state, which are not only eco-friendly but also offer employment to local youth.

Till now, our prime ministers were famous for either being involved in some corruption scandal, or were famously known as thieves of 10% worldwide. The only place our PMs names would appear would be in lists of the most corrupt, in the list of stolen asset recovery, or similar headlines.

Nowadays, its like a breath of fresh air. Indian minister refers to IK as an angel. Malaysian first lady gets giddy at getting to hold his hand....China lays out the red carpet for him....Saudis give him all the time in the world and listen. And the man only speaks of our country...he doesnt talk of giving in. 10 years of IK will inshaAllah transform the country to the point where the public will forget all dynastic politicians.

I have been to Switzerland many times and have visited almost all places including Interlaken, Lusanne, Zurich etc.

And I can tell you with honesty that Pakistan northern area are much more beautiful then it. However, tourism cannot flourish with just natural beauty. You have to got to manage, secure and run the place. Tourists require security, independence, roads, hotels, neat and clean environment and other facilities.

Pakistan will have to relax visit visa rules for tourism. It will have to built road networks and provide accessibility to these areas through a network of cars, modern buses, rails etc. It will have to built modern hotels. It will have to take care of complete security. And most importantly, it will have to publish and prsent everything on line with just the click of a button, everything from hotel reservations to car booking to train tickets.

Its BILLION dollar industry. However Pakistan will have to do the basics first.

Switzerland is modernized. Northern areas of Pakistan are still blessed with natural beauty. Even europeans admit that after visiting Pak north.

That's highly subjective. I've been to the Andes and the Alps. I've experienced the wilderness of Alaska and the rough outbacks of Australia but the beauty of this part (Pakistan, India, China belt) remains unmatched. I'm a mountain guy myself and for me nothing beats the awe inspiring mountains of Pakistan.
Switzerland has infrastructure, we don't.
After coming to Pakistan I've actually moved to Kalam and am in the middle of building a chalet here.

I used to go often, my sister in law lives there. Pakistan cannot be like Switzerland because the money spent on infrastructure. Nothing to do with the beauty. When Pakistan is developed it would be more beautiful than Switzerland.
IF you count one aspect only, that would tell you why it would take Pakistan years or decades to come to the level of Switzerland, the illegal tree logging had left so many beautifully tree covered mountains and hills barren. All this had been done in the previous governments with the full convince of the PMLN and PPP leaderships. If we stop that and replant the trees, half of the gap with Swtizerland would be plugged. Half would come with development.

Switzerland is mostly alpine. And all of its population resides on plateaus. So Switzerland has no choice but to create infrastructure connecting all the places.
Pakistans north is a small percentage of the entire country. Comparing it to Switzerland is lopsided. Its similar to comparing KPK to Punjab and wondering why Peshawar is not as 'good' as Lahore. PTI has spent reforming KPK institutions the past 5 years. That is what earned them all the votes they got. Give them due time, and the outlook will be different.

What other parties oculdnt do in 50 years is expected from PTI in 5 years. I see why you would have such lofty expectations from Imran Khan. Rest assured, it will work out.

I think this trend is changing now. You see a lot of well known travellers visiting Pakistan, case in point Mark Weins recent tour, Cassie de Pecol the current travel record holder etc. Not just that the British Backpacker society named Pakistan the top country for travellers. Most people who visit Pakistan fall in love with it immediately based on 3 fold reasons:

1)- Mouth-watering food.
2)- Fantastic Hospitality.
3)- Spellbinding Views.

These are unparalleled ingredients for flourishing tourism. Having said that I do agree with you, we do need better infrastructures. The conditions of roads and hotels in certain parts is not up to the mark. Better transportation facilities especially getting to spots like Deosai or Fairy Meadows, Astore Valley etc. is a challenge. It is up to the government now to utilize this amazing potential.
