Army craves for, and thrives on public support, and currently they are missing that terribly. They have tried to regain it through force and propaganda, but not working. Imran Khan has also proven to be totally different from what they expected. Nawaz Sharif, Maryam, Zardari, all spent times in jail, but they all had VVIP enclosures with full facilities, ACs, home food, home washed clothes, sellout journos available for interviews, and ability to flee the country on excuse of being close to death.
Imran has resisted all that. Hes been totally unexpected perhasp even for PTI followers.
Times have changed. And will continue to change.

Sharifs cannot go out in public without staging dramas. Zardaris can never go out in public, period. These families are being spit upon...but they think their PM and president and CM posts will save them. Maybe for now, but not always.
