After the unlawful abduction and murder of the MQM's founder and leader Altaf Hussain (AH), his status in the history books (and more importantly in the hearts of his supporters) is confirmed as that of a great martyr. AH's claims about conspiracies to silence him have been proved true, solidifying his position as a fearless leader and a candid speaker.
The MQM's followers now rank him not far from the Martyrs of Karbala (not surprising considering the titles given to AH during his life time).
Pakistan's key political and social figures, including his biggest rivals and critics are now forced to pay tributes (which would not have been the case if he had been subject to a lawful punishment). His exile, which was one of the great examples of Pakistani politicians' cowardness and selfishness, is now being described as a great personal sacrifice.
The MQM has greatly benefited from its chief's murder, which has given another lease of life to the party. According to some pundits the current level of the MQM's popularity is at par with the profound support they enjoyed in the late 80s and early 90s. Reliable sources claim that the senior leadership of the MQM is very glad that they've got rid of a big problem, and that too with a bonus in the form of their party's renewed popularity, in other words, two birds with one stone!
