A few days ago, Imran Khan got arrested while he was in Islamabad court premises having his biometrics done. Imran Khan asked those who showed up to arrest him to show warrants. Instead got hit by a rod on his head and leg and was dragged out of the room and taken away by paramilitary forces.

Regardless of the merit of the case, Imran Khan’s arrest without showing him warrants was illegal and one need not be a rocket scientist to understand the very basics of that. Even an entry-level law student can tell that was an assault on someone’s basic human rights.

Amir Farooq, CJ Islamabad, in whose court Imran Khan was going to appear, declared that abduction is legal. That begs the question if this man understands what basic human rights are and why he didn’t stand up for the victim.

Amir Farooq was part of a three-bench that heard the infamous Terry White case. A verdict with 2/1 was given and uploaded to the Islamabad High Court website after which Amir Farooq declared a new bench will be constituted.

Whether this man is biased toward Imran Khan or simply incompetent he should not be allowed to continue as a judge.

Access to justice and sanctity of the court is a fundamental thing …. CJP (05/10)
