Clearly, his lordship went to the meeting with an agenda to humiliate and, if possible, shut down IIU. Dr Arif Alvi, being in the chair, shares the blame for poor chairmanship, inability to steer the meeting, and letting a member hijack the meeting (potentially the board). The Secretary to the President, who was apparently present in this meeting, should 've given Dr Alvi a cue to take charge. Perhaps, the IIU administration may like to send a letter of regrets to the trustees for deviation from the agenda and wasting their time. In any case, the board membership needs to be revisited; judicial ethics and COI dictate that CJ should not be a board member of public or private sector universities, institutes or societies in the first place.
Regretfully, differences aside, when history of this period would be written, his lordship would be remembered as an agent of the East India Company, a volatile instrument of chaos, one who sowed discord amongst brethren justices and between institutions of the State, and demolished the separation of powers. Many had seen this coming. Before his lordship's elevation as CJP, on June 22, 2023, Justice Katju had publicly called him a "mental case" and "lunatic," later a "politician in robe," and eventually confronted him in an open letter on Dec 20, 2023 that he's neither "Qazi", nor "Faez", nor "Isa."
By the way, do people know why did this person's paternal grandfather receive knighthood (one of the likely reasons of his narcissism and hubris)?
For those unaware or have forgotten, his paternal grandfather, Qazi Jalal-ud-din was a Hazara Elder in Kandahar and purportedly a British informer, who covertly supported the British in The Great Game and used to incite local Afghans against Emir Abdur Rahman Khan. (Kandahar had extreme geostrategic significance for the British during Anglo-Afghan wars, more on that some other day). When the Emir caught his grand-dad red-handed, the British evacuated Qazi Jalal and his family, knighted him (Sir Qazi Jalal-ud-din K.B., C.I.E.) and allotted him vast tracts of land in/around Pishin (wherefrom he thence started sowing discord amongst and between Baloch and Pashtuns, per imperial wishes). That's how they arrived and settled in Balochistan (his claim of 'elite nationalist family' is a fiction). Later, the British tagged his dad with the Father of the Nation to spy on him and report his moves back to the British. No wonder, his dad was one of the major beneficiaries of PM Liaquat Ali Khan's assassination, the first Pakistani “notable” ever accused of smuggling sugar and promoting organised crime, and the first Pakistani “diplomat” ever to be detained at a domestic airport (Karachi) attempting to smuggle diamonds (his diplomatic passport was revoked and ambassadorship terminated thereafter). (It is said that treason and crime run in the family.)
Also recall, amongst his first 'office orders' after taking oath as CJ were: (1) direct appointment of Dr Mushtaq, who was probably his contract researcher at that time, as F/T PS to CJP in BS-22 on contract - without advertisement or open competition, and (2) demand from MOD (Aviation) to exempt Ms Zarina Montserrat (in the guise of privilege for spouses of all justices) from search at airports.
And why did he need Dr Mushtaq, who recommended Dr Mushtaq, and who is actually pulling the strings of whom - it's for the govt to dig, but Dr Mushtaq is purportedly his ghost judgment-writer and principal local legal advisor (while his principal overseas legal advisors are purportedly Ms Alison Scott-Baumann and Mr Charles Laubach), esp in cases requiring interpretation/explanation of Shariah (such as recent controversial judgment on the Finality of Prophethood (pbuh)) and in other miscellaneous judgments to the extent of inputs and citations from the Shariah and Islamic jurisprudence.
Otherwise, everyone knows his lordship's legal acumen and character (perhaps except Mr Aitzaz Ahsan who recommended his name to CJ Iftikhar Ch). A person who had to get Civil Law-101 lesson from Barrister Ali Zafar in the Court (watch the 'bat' symbol hearing again) is not just CJ but now also wants to rewrite the Constitution! Subhan Allah!
