I just hope that you don't advocate this philosophy to your kids. There is nothing to cherish about money/loans if it is coming at the cost of humiliation/interference from the investor/loaner. Paying a few more cents(in a dollar) isn't a great cost for freedom dignity and respect.

Moreover, Russia was giving you a better offer with 30% of Oil discount and similar discount on flour imports which roughly translates into $2B to $5B yearly savings and I repeat, savings not loans depending upon the amount of Oil/flour you import. This is how much you can do yourself when you know your potential and when you are not worried about pleasing/displeasing someone.
