The very idea of Nation states and democratic process was provided by the Colonial masters. It took them 100 years to occupy India, and Mughal era ended forever. Ottoman Empire was broken in pieces in the aftermaths of World War 1. Second World War became a reason for lot of British and French colonies to claim freedom in 1940s. If we read history of Islam, one thing we understand that in last millennium Kings and their power was correlated with Islam. It does not matter, if it was Umayads, Abbasids or Ottomans, in their empires Islam flourished swiftly in those areas. Now the age of empires has gone, All good kings are dead. Young Muslim of 21th century want to see democracy in their countries i.e. Egypt, Tunisia, Libya. There are news of clashes going on in Yemen, Bahrain, Syria and Jordan. Saudi Arabia youngster seemed prone to some extent as well. Today in Islamic world, we count 55 countries as Muslim countries; Majority of these country believe in democratic process so in a sense, more than 80% Muslim are living in Democratic Countries. Islam's new challenge is not to negate democratic process, but provide Muslim new National identities and to survive in new age. I count three ages of Islam; Khalafat and Islam; then the age of Kings, so Kings and Islam and finally now this age ; Democracy and Islam.
