Karachi blast kills 15, criminal gangs suspected
(Reuters) - At least 15 people were killed and several wounded when a bomb ripped through a club for card players in Pakistan's biggest city of Karachi Thursday, police said.
"It was most likely a planted bomb, and it took place inside the club," police official Saqib Sultan told Reuters. "I can confirm that 15 people are dead so far and at least 20 are wounded."
Hospital officials said at least 35 people were wounded.
No one claimed responsibility for the bombing at the club, which is in an area known for turf wars between criminal gangs.
Officials said that the club was also run by criminals and was home to illegal gambling. They suspected that the attack might be a result of a gang war.
Karachi has a long history of bloody feuds between rival ethnic, political and sectarian groups, in which hundreds of people have been killed.
Militants linked to al Qaeda and Taliban have also carried out attacks in the city in the past.

Blast at a gambling den in Karachi, 15 killed
KARACHI: At least 15 people were killed and three injured on Thursday evening when a blast took place at a gambling den located in the Ghas Mandi area in Karachi, DawnNews reported.
The center of the blast was a gambling den located in the Ghas Mandi area.
According to sources an unidentified person threw a hand grenade at the gambling den that killed fifteen people and severely injured three.
The injured were moved to Jinnah and Civil hospitals where a state of emergency was declared.
The person in charge of the Emergency Department at Jinnah Hospital, Sami Jamali said that two injured were brought in in severe condition.

This probably proves the Musharraf times were a lot better, unfortunately these politician thugs really have been only disaster for the people here. MQM has done a lot for Karachi, and was able to maintain good amount of control, which gave the city some years of peace. Peoples party has always been trying to create problems for Karachiites, who don't blindly vote for these terrorists, in order to tilt the balance they've been weaponizing the criminal elements and making them join their ranks, which are called the Peoples aman committee and the ANP's thugs to counter MQM, n the 90s they used the police and now they're using criminals which is making law and order situation awful here in Karachi. The ANP has been terrorizing people here doing bhattakhori, they've taken this to an all new level, on every first week of the month, a piece of paper is given by a group of pashtuns showing up to pay amount[which can range from thousand to lakh] in 2-3 days or face kidnapping, of yourself or your family member or get murdered.
And the political backing that they're getting from peoples party who are also involved will take this situation towards another provincialism episode which there jamhuri bast*rds did in the 90s. Instead of going forward we're going back into hell-like situation of the 90s.
