My point was that why is he writting too much about religious and religional affairs instead of his own field and you started mentioning his articles in scientific journals... but you have failed to produce any single of his article about his or scientic field in newspapers. We have two examples of small countries standing up to much larger and stronger armies of the world. Vietnam and Afghanistan so size is not always something No one today wants to initiate a fight but they would definitely want to try to keep their armies strong enough to be able to cause considerable damage if someone tries for an adventure. This acts as a deterrence.
We see many examples today in sports, where weaker teams defeat much stronger opponents when they skillfully play their cards right. It is like a game of chess literally.
No country can claim to be invincible today but keeping a strong enough force is every country's right. Our only real and possible threat is from our neighbor at the eastern border which is currently the biggest importer of arms goods. We cannot match their defense budget spending so we need to beef up where we can.
BTW these days invasion is not an option used anymore. There are other tactics employed to subdue weaker countries. They can cutoff your most important cities and ports to completely paralyze one country and annihilate them with aerial bombing to bring the country to its knees.
I respect all the pacifists and you would not believe but the biggest pacifist are the soldiers themselves because it is they who are in the line of fire. Mr Hoodbhoy, is a very respectful figure in the field of science but he is no pacifist. He has done nothing to use his influence to develop an understanding with other countries to diffuse the issues which can be the cause of conflict. All he is asking is the unilateral nuclear disarmament and reduction of defense budget spending without providing solutions to the issues.
This stance only helps the enemies who want to make you weak enough to force you to accept their terms of engagement.

Ok, you sports analogy is completely wrong. In sports teams are evenly matched, and very rare is the case of small team beating a stronger, more experienced team. Vietnam and Afghanistan don't even have an army, they have or had guerrillas insurgents. Afghanistan doesn't even have a functioning economy.
Your second point, strong enough force is every country's right. They lose that right, the moment they knock on the door of IMF, World Bank, and beg countries for aid.
And Pakistan doesn't have any threat from India. This is lie that has been told to us since our inception. Pakistan's only threat is from within, and you don't need tanks or artillery to fight that. You need to change people's mindset, you need better schools, rule of law. Our schools aren't producing stephen hawkings, they mullah abdullah, mullah mehsud, sheeps, dumb people.
