Overseas Pakistani organizations have played vital role in establishing a good picture of Pakistan in various countries against some hard ground realities. However, many such organizations are known to be run as shams who are doing nothing but projecting agenda of few. “Canada Pakistan Association”, located in Ottawa Canada, is one such example. Over the years this organization has done nothing but bring disgrace and embarrassment to the its name, to its members and to the very country/community that it’s supposed to represent. Given this organization is located in the capital of Canada, they can be really effective in portraying a positive image of Pakistan. However, in reality, they have been proven an ineffective organization. There has been no transparency behind how its operations are run, any services provided, auditing behind funds collection and consumption.
Recently there has been “elections” for the new CPA board. However, there was no transparency in the process as everything was pre-planned. They didn’t announce elections on their website, Facebook page or other social media platforms. People who got "elected" distributed various portfolios among themselves before a single vote could be casted. Even the very own members of the organizations were NOT notified about the elections. To a surprise for many, they just issued following statement on their Facebook page.
The interesting section is following from their announcement
I simply feel ashamed that this organization is pretending to represent ordinary hard-working Pakistanis in Canada, although, in reality they are doing a great dis-service to the country. It just hurts seeing how some people are using an organization on the name of country for their own personal benefits. I hope this newly elected board members will re-think their current strategy. They must understand that in this age of social media, this type of acts is simply not acceptable and will not remain hidden. I recommend the new “elected” board should be dissolved immediately and new elections are conducted in a fair and transparent fashion.

Basically everyone got elected without any need for elections. This makes many in Canadian-Pakistani community wonder where else in the world, you can have elections where ONLY one person for a seat is on the ballots? The only place(s) that could be named are where democratic processes have been used to hide the dictatorial rulers. It’s shameful if same practices are used while living and enjoying the democratic culture of beautiful Canada.
