  • The Hajar al-Aswad was brought from Jannah and presented to Ebrahim (upon him be peace) to be placed on the corner of the Ka’bah. Ibn ‘ Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) said:“The Black Stone came down from Paradise and it was whiter than milk, but the sins of the sons of Adam turned it black.” [Tirmidhi]

I know that because of the geographical location of Muslims in the subcontinent many of them are heavily influenced by hindus and sikh etc even in their Deen but Alhamdolillah Islam is preserved in its original form in other parts of the world. Monotheism in Islam is the base of the whole Deen and Islam is the only Deen on planet earth which strictly, strictly adhere to monotheism (Tawheed).

In Islam the main emphasis is on collective worship rather than individual and many Islamic ibadat such as praying in congregation, ramadhan, zakat, hajj and the socio-economic and justce system of Islam are mainly collective rather than individual. As we pray in congregation so we are ordered by Allah S.W.T to face in the direction of Kaaba, if we don’t do it, it would be impossible to observe the collective congregational prayer. So we only obey the Creator S.W.T by doing so. You may know that after Hijrah to Madinah Muslims used to face in the direction of Masjid Aqsa (As they were ordered to do so by Allah S.W.T) before the verses of Sura Baqrah were revealed. When these verses were revealed Prophet S.A.W and the Sahaba turned their faces towards Kaaba during prayer. But this does not mean we worship the Kaaba or Haj re Aswad. During the times of Prophet S.A.W Bilal R.A used to climb the Kaaba and call for prayer (Adhan) on it’s roof, no hindu, sikh or any other person will climb on his god during his worship, this shows that we don’t worship the Kaaba or any other thing. We only worship Allah S.W.T

If you are a Muslim you should go for a Hajj or Umrah and see with your own eyes the police in Madinah will not even allow you to kiss the grave of the Prophet S.A.W although he S.A.W is most respected after Allah S.W.T.

As the Ka'bah is an object of respect but not of worship, so too is the black stone. It is revered as the only remnant of Abraham's original building; and because the lips of Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) touched it on his farewell pilgrimage, all pilgrims have done the same ever- since."

For you the sayings of Umar R.A should be sufficient

1. Bukhari, vol 2 book 26, No. 667
Narrated 'Abis bin Rabia: Umar R.A came near the black stone and kissed it and said "no doubt, I know that you are a stone and can neither benefit anyone nor harm anyone. Had I not seen Allah's apostle kissing you I would not have kissed you"
Narrated Zaid bin Aslam from his father who said: "Umar bin al-Khattab addressed the corner (black stone) saying, "by Allah! I know that you are a stone and can neither benefit nor harm. Had I not seen the prophet (PeaceBt Upon Him) touching (and kissing) you, I would never have touched (and kissed) you. Then he kissed it and said,There is no reason for us to do ramal (in tawaf) except that we wanted to show off before the pagans, and now Allah has destroyed them. "Umar added, (Nevertheless), the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) did that and we do not want to leave it (i.e. ramal)"

2. Muslim Book 007, No. 2914:
Abdullah b. Sarjis reported: I saw the bald one, i.e. Umar bin Khattib (Allah be pleased with him), kissing the Stone and saying: by Allah. I am kissing with full consciousness of the fact that you are a stone and that you can neither do any harm nor good; and if I had not seen Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) kissing you. I would not have kissed you".

Allah knows best....
