Sindh govt destroyed every dept of KMC: Mayor

KARACHI: City Mayor Wasim Akhtar paid a visit to inter-city bus terminal in Baldia Town on Friday.
Director General of Technical Services Shahab Anwer, Senior Director of Municipal Services Masood Alam, Senior Director of Katchi Abadies Nazeer Lakhani and representatives of transport companies accompanied him on this occasion. The mayor inspected the facilities provided at this terminal for transporters and citizens. Talking to media representatives during his visit, the mayor said this inter-city bus terminal had been neglected for the last 10 years and alleged that the Sindh government had destroyed every department of the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC).
He said that billions of rupees were generated through the KMC, but nothing was spent on the city. Due to unavailability of a shuttle bus service here, Balochistan-bound buses were using roads in the main city. As a result, city was witnessing huge traffic jams.
He said that now “we will jointly work for bringing improvement in the condition of this bus terminal so that better facilities can be provided to transporters at this terminal”. The mayor also inspected the under-construction Hub River Road and checked the condition of the drain in Saeedabad.

KARACHI - Expressing annoyance over the rundown condition of KMCs workshop, Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhter on Tuesday directed the KMC administrators to immediately make the out-of-order vehicles operational.
This he stated during his surprise visit to KMCs workshop.
He made it clear to the officials to perform their duties honestly, or otherwise the department will take stern action against them. All outdated vehicles and other scrap should be shifted to the store from the workshop for auction, the mayor said, and told district corporations to work in their remits. If any corporation exceeds its limits, then action will be taken against it, he warned. Later, Wasim visited the Central Office of fire brigade department, and conveyed his concern over the hoisting of political banners and posters in the office.
He ordered the immediate removal of all political banners from all KMC departments. Wasim also went to the KMC store and directed that measures be taken for the auction of all outdated vehicles and other scrap. He also asked all the officials and rest of the staff to ensure they reach office on time; otherwise stern action would be taken.
Talking to media during his visit to Bilal Colony in Korangi, Wasim said that the Sindh government did not own Karachi. If the provincial government does not give me powers, then I will approach the Supreme Court to get them, he threatened.

Mayor demands announcement of PFC Award
Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar has written a letter to the finance minster and chairman of the Provincial Finance Commission (PFC), demanding that a formula or award for the commission should be announced as early as possible so that equitable funds could be released to all local councils of the province, including the Karachi Municipal Corporation.
He has asked the government to provide additional funds to all councils till the finalisation of the PFC award to the extent of the payment of salaries and to provide basic municipal services to citizens.
According to the letter, as the due share of the PFC has been decided and the share of local councils determined, the government should decide the share of municipal development funds out of the total provincial Annual Development Programme on the pattern of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s PFC.
The mayor requested provision of an additional grant in aid/or an increase in OZT to RS200million per month in addition to the existing financial share (OZT Rs132.686 and grant in aid Rs300 million totalling RS432.686million), “thereby making total government receipts to Rs632million per month so that the KMC could survive till a fair and transparent PFC Award is announced”.
