Swat stream no more a tourist attraction
MINGORA: Water is life but once it is polluted, it is injurious to health.
Drinking water supplies to Swat district have long been contaminated but the relevant authorities continue to be indifferent to it to the misery of local population.
Until 1980 decade, Mingora stream was a source of entertainment for both local residents and visitors as many picnic spots were all around pulling large crowds, especially during the summer season.

Drawing attention: Unofficial report accuses agro dept of embezzlement
Financial anomalies and other mismanagement at the Sugar Crops Research Institute (SCRI) Mardan recently surfaced after a 15-page report was compiled by staffers within the institute. The document, which was put together unofficially, has been forwarded to the governor, several members of the provincial cabinet as well as the minister for agriculture and the director general of both the agriculture and anti-corruption departments.
While a long list of small and large amounts are highlighted as having been misappropriated during 2011-12, the blame has been placed on SCRI Director Muhammad Tahir and other unidentified staffers led by him.
An official audit claims Rs1.6 million worth of fertiliser, pesticide and other necessities for farmers were specified for a Mardan farm and Rs3.1 million for Harichand. These were purchased under a USAID project. Insiders at the SCRI claim these materials disappeared from the stores of both farms overnight with no record whatsoever.
When contacted, Tahir rejected all allegations. He stated the income of SCRI went up from Rs3.9 million to Rs6.5 million. Reforms were undertaken under his supervision, added Tahir. “But there are people who do not want me to do my job.”

Some of the expenditures listed but allegedly never put to official use include a seminar for which a bill of Rs80,000 was drawn under the ADP. It would seem, however, no such seminar took place.

پنجاب پولیس نے خیبر پختونخواہ سے داخل ہونے والے 12 دہشت گردوں کو گرفتار کرلیا۔ دہشتگرد پنجاب میں بڑی تباہی اور دہشت گردی کے منصوبے کے تحت داخل ہو رہے تھے۔ -
اٹک خورد پولیس کو خفیہ اداروں کی جانب سے اطلاع ملی تھی کہ دہشتگرد ایک ویگن میں سوار ہو کر پنجاب میں داخل ہونے والے ہیں جس پر سڑکوں پر ناکہ بندی کردی گئی اور پولیس نے خیبر پختونخوا سے آنے والی ایک گاڑی میں سوار 12 دہشت گردوں کو گرفتار کرلیا۔ -
پولیس کا کہنا ہے کہ گرفتار کئے گئے دہشتگرد پنجاب میں بڑی تباہی اور دہشت گردی کے منصوبے کے تحت داخل ہو رہے تھے۔ ان میں سے 3 دہشتگردی کے ماسٹر مائنڈ جبکہ 9 کم عمر لڑکے ہیں جنہیں ممکنہ طور پر دہشتگردی کیلئے استعمال کیا جانا تھا۔ پولیس نے انسداد دہشتگردی ایکٹ کے تحت ملزمان کے خلاف مقدمہ درج کر کے تحقیقات شروع کر دی ہے۔ -

Police arrests 12 for using fake IDP cards
Twelve people accused of being involved in counterfeit internally displaced person (IDP) registration cards were arrested in Bannu on Sunday. These fake cards were being used to procure ration meant for IDPs.
According to City police official Amir Rukhsar, the seven people who had been arrested on Saturday for pretending to be IDPs from North Waziristan and taking items from a ration point in Ziyad Akram Khan Durrani Sports Complex near Bannu City had helped identify others also involved.
According to Rukhsar, the accused admitted they had been selling the cards to locals for Rs1,000 each.
All arrested people were put behind bars and further investigation is under way, Rukhsar added.

Terror plot foiled: Police recover cache of arms, IEDs during raid
Police claimed to have thwarted a terror plot on Sunday following the discovery of a huge cache of arms and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during a raid on the home of a local commander of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
“In Roodi village of Kulachi tehsil of DI Khan district, regular and elite police personnel raided the house of a local TTP commander, Qutubuddin, in the early hours of Sunday and recovered weaponry,” according to a statement issued by the district police officer (DPO) in DI Khan.
A police official said that the raid was carried out on the basis of a tip-off regarding the presence of the TTP commander. He said the TTP commander and his colleagues had fled from the scene before the raid.

MINGORA: The security forces arrested suspected terrorists and recovered a big quantity of arms and ammunition from their possession during a joint operation in Mullah Baba area and its adjoining localities in Mingora city.
According to an ISPR press release issued here on Sunday, the security forces promptly acted on information gleaned from the held suspects and arrested outlaws involved in targeted killings. The personnel also recovered weapons, ammunition and explosives during the action.

Dr Samad appointed director of archaeology
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has appointed Dr Abdul Samad, head of department of archaeology and school of cultural heritage and creative technologies at Hazara University, as director of the provincial directorate of archaeology and museums.
Perhaps the youngest archeology director during the last decade or so, the 33-year-old doctor accepted the responsibility to takes care of the rich archaeological wealth of the Gandhara Civilisation. He had to drop an offer of Fulbright Scholarship for the job.
“Peshawar Museum traditionally had the world renowned archaeologists as its founders and curators like Sir Aurel Stein, Hargreaves and DB Spooner. However, we have sunk to such mediocrity that appointments are made on political basis rather than merit. It is time merit should prevail,” said an official, on condition of anonymity, about deputation of officials as director of archaeology during the last couple of years.
Dr Samad, an assistant professor who is also a gold medalist of University of Peshawar, gained rich experience in the field of archaeology during his 10-year career. The young archaeologist also worked as a consultant with the provincial department of archaeology and museums from Jan 2011 to Dec 2012. He supervised activities like publication and administration of museums and also initiated different heritage awareness programmes by involving local community.

ریزر صاحب کسی وزیر اعلیٰ کا لوگوں کے جنازوں میں شرکت کرنا کسی قانون کی شق نہیں۔ یہ ایک صوابدیدی اختیار ہے اگر جنازے میں شرکت کے لیے چلا جائے تو اچھا ہے اور اگر نہ جائے تو توئی قانونی شق لاگو نہیں ہوتی۔
دعوت ولیمہ میں شرکت اہم ہے - شہید کی نماز جنازہ پڑھنا یا اسکے اہل خانہ سے تعزیت کرنا ضروری نہیں

بھائی پہلے معلومات لے لو پھر اعتراض کرو۔ مفتی محمود فلائی اور کا منصوبہ مشرف دور میں شروع ہوا تھا۔ جب ایم ایم اے کی حکومت آئی تو اکرم درانی نے یہ منصوبہ ادھورا چھوڑ دیا اور یہا ں کا سارا فنڈ اُٹھا کر بنوں لے گیا۔ اے این پے کے دور میں اس منصوبے کی تکمیل کے لیے پیسہ آیا تو حیدر ہوتی کی بدولت سارا پیسا مردان منتقل ہوگیا۔ اب پی ٹی آئی کی حکومت آئی ہے اور اس منصوبے پر دن رات کام ہو رہا ہے اور یہ اسی فیصد سے زیادہ ہو چکا ہے۔
