A commanding Officer whose unit literally deserted the posts in kargil sector,indian army took away 12 mortars and many machine guns from them which were later displayed in srinagar as war booty ,he got artillery splinter in his leg while having eggs and paratha miles away from the front ,was awarded sitar e jurat (SJ) because his father in law was a serving general from Gujranwala and a loyal buddy of Mushi. Kargil operation medals were literally distributed among units on the basis of good citations. Majority of the siachin medals were given to staff officers who were siting hundereds of miles away in gilgit and the only time they visit forward posts were on their posting to northern area. They would sit in helicopter , visit forward posts to familirize themselves with the area , go back to their headquarters and ask the forward units commanding officer to send his citation for SITARA E BASALIT(SBT).
In my opinion the only deserving case in Mehran Air Base fight is the soldier from Rangers who is neither trained nor duty bound to safe guard Navy Base.Rest top to bottom are to be court martialed. That is what professional armies would do .

After 1965 war, all decorations have lost their charm, be it nishan-e-haider, jur'at or what have you.

They have not even investigated yet to conclude how they got in. I dont think they got in thru the dirty creek in back. they came thru the front gate invited part of baraatis to attend a wedding ceremony. They should ask who invited them and how much does the gate keeper know and how much was he bribed.

اس دنیا میں کوئی بھی چیز پرفیکٹ نہیں ہے۔ لوگ پاک فوج کے خلاف ہیں اور مزید ہوتے جا رہے ہیں، مگر ہمیں دوسرے رخ کو مدنظر رکھنا چاہیے اور بجائے اسکے کہ فوج کو مکمل طور پر ختم کر دیں، ہمیں اسکی غلطیوں کو ختم کرنا چاہیے۔

مسائل یہ ہیں کہ:۔

۔1۔ انڈیا کی فوج کئی گنا بڑی ہے اور انکا ڈیفنس بجٹ پاک فوج کے بجٹ سے پانچ دس گنا بڑا ہے۔

۔2۔ اگر ہم اس فیکٹ کو مدنظر رکھے بغیر پاک فوج کو ختم کر دیں گے تو ہمارا انجام بھی جلد انڈین حیدرآباد کی طرح ہو گا جہاں انڈیا بہت آسانی سے قابض ہو گیا۔

۔3۔ اور ساری غلطی پاک فوج کی نہیں ہے، بلکہ پاک سیاستدان اور حکمران ان سے کہیں زیادہ کرپٹ اور نااہل ہیں۔
ہمارے سارے سول ادارے انتہائی کرپشن کا شکار ہیں، چاہے یہ عدالتیں ہوں یا پھر پولیس۔

اگر حقیقت پسندی سے دیکھا جائے تو اس معاملے میں پاکستان کے سٹینڈرڈز کے مطابق پاک فوج نے اپنے آپ کو بہت زیادہ منظم اور بہت کم کرپٹ رکھا ہے (یقینا کرپشن ہر جگہ ہوتی ہے، مگر پاک فوج میں کرپشن کم ہی ہے۔ اگر میں اس معاملے میں غلطی کر رہی ہوں تو میری تصحیح فرما دیں)۔

۔۔4۔ طالبان کا قیام اور پھر افغانیوں کو کھلے عام پاکستان کی سرزمین پر گھومنے کی اجازت بہت بڑی غلطی تھی۔ مگر اسکے لیے بھی مکمل الزام فوج کو نہین جاتا بلکہ پندرہ بیس فیصد الزام بینظیر کو بھی جاتا ہے جس نے امریکی دباؤ مین آ کر طالبان کو پیدا کیا۔

۔5۔ طالبان نے ہماری شہہ پر افغانستان میں جو زبردستی قتل و غارت کرتے ہوئے افغانی شہریوں پر قابض ہوئے، تو اسی کا مکافاتِ عمل آج ہم پاکستان میں سہہ رہے ہیں۔


۔6۔ اور ہو سکتا ہے کہ کراچی آپریشن میں فوج کامیاب نہ ہو سکی ہو۔۔۔۔ مگر یہ بھی حقیقت ہے کہ پاک فوج ہی کے افسران و نوجوان تھے جنہوں نے حکم ملنے پر سوات میں طالبان کو مار مار کر ادھ موا کر دیا اور اہل سوات کو طالبانی ظلم و ستم سے نجات دلائی۔ جتنا کامیاب آپریشن انہوں نے سوات مین کیا ہے، اسکے لیے پاک فوج ہماری ستائش کے قابل ہے۔ کیا وجہ ہے کہ ہم کراچی کے آپریشن کو یاد رکھ رہے ہیں اور سوات کے آپریشن کو بھول گئے ہیں؟
اگر پاک فوج نہ ہوتی تو انڈیا کو چھوڑیے بلکہ آج طالبان اپنے فتنے کے ساتھ پورے ملک پر قابض ہوتی۔


۔7۔ اور جنرل شجاع پاشا کہتے ہیں کہ انہوں نے نو سو نوے دہشتگردوں کو پکڑ کر حکومت کے حوالے کیا۔ مگر ہماری عدالتیں سب سے بڑی دہشتگرد ہیں اور ان عدالتون نے ان تمام کے تمام نو سو نوے دہشتگردوں کو ریکارڈ وقت میں جیل سے آزاد کر دیا، حالانکہ ان میں ایسے دہشتگرد بھی تھے جو کھلے عام اقرار کرتے تھے کہ انہوں نے یہ قتل کیے ہیں۔
اب بتلائے کہ ایسے ملک میں کہ جہاں کی عدالتیں تک ایسی کرپٹ اور فتنہ آور ہوں گی، وہاں فوج یا انٹیلیجنس کیا کر سکتی ہے؟

چنانچہ ہر چیز کو اعتدال مین رکھنا صحیح ہے۔ فوج پر بھی آپ سب لوگ یوں نہ ٹوٹ پڑیں۔ آج۔۔۔۔ آج فوج ہی وہ واحد ادارہ ہے جو طالبانی فتنے کا راستہ روک سکتا ہے۔ ورنہ ہم دیکھ چکے ہیں کہ سوات میں طالبان کلاشنکوف کی مدد سے بہت آسانی سے قابض ہو گئی تھی۔ یہی حال پورے پاکستان کا ہے اور ان مذہبی جنونیوں کے پاس ہر ہر پاکستانی شہر میں اسلحے و بارود کے انبار ہیں اور ساتھ مین جنونی پاگل پن کا شکار دہشتگردوں کے بھی انبار ہیں اور پاک فوج کے بغیر یہ منٹ نہیں لگائیں گے کہ زبردستی لوگوں کے گلے کاٹنے انہیں ذبح کرتے ہوئے ان پر قابض ہو جائیں اور اپنا جاہلانہ نظام زبردستی ہم پر مسلط کر دیں۔

I ll not reply for all the crap forwarded by you as it is that same stupid mentality which has led the whole nation to this Mehran Base Disaster . . . . .

Remaining on the topic . . . Could any one tells me the reason for this timely nomination . . . . . Because it is a fact now that this nomination was recommended to save the jobs of many . . . . Principle among them is the Naval Chief, Mehran Base Commander and many more Officers relating to the Navy operations . . . . Truth is that Yasir been recommended for NH, just to cover the incompetence of those dozen or so Officers belonging from the Navy, Airforce and the Army . . . .

Still I accept that Yasir's stand was responsible for slowing those militants and in the end for saving a couple of aircrafts . . . . But still I don t consider this incident ( and from incident I don t meant Yasir acts ) as suitable for the such awards . . . . The message is clear to the public that we ve been humiliated and the Navy is distributing medals . . . . .

And against whom . . . A half dozen semi trained militants . . . in fact it is the militants who should be given the Victoria Cross for inflicting such heavy losses, defending them selves for 18 hours, facing a combine strength of 3000 military personnels of Navy, Naval SSG, Airforce, Two Army Battalions, Army SSG and the Rangers . . . . and I forget the Police as Rehman Malik has claimed that One terrorist was killed by a Police officer . . . . That leaves Three dead terrorist of which two blew themselves up leaving just one in the share of our Armed forces . . . . .

Further more . . . The stupid way in which the wife of a retired army officer was begging that Khuda ka lia koi meray buchay ko Nishan e Haider dai day . . . leaves just one option for the relatives of the other martyrs . . . . . . .

But still his mother has lost her son, why?
It is because of our corrupt leadership both political and army specially Mush.

یاسر شہید کا بنیادی کام فلائنگ تھا۔ مگر بہرحال اسکا جذبہ تھا، اسکی پاکستان سے محبت تھی، اپنے فرض کا احساس تھا کہ اس نے اپنی ہمت کے مطابق مزاحمت کی۔

چنانچہ یاسر شہید کا علاقے کے دیگر نااہل افسران یا سیکورٹی پر مامور عملے سے تعلق نہیں ہے۔ یہ دونوں الگ الگ چیزیں ہیں۔ سیکورٹی کے ذمہ داران کو بے شک تنقید کا نشانہ بنایا جائے، مگر اس معاملے کو یاسر شہید کی بہادری اور قربانی سے نہ جوڑا جائے۔ اوپر آپ لوگوں کے ریمارکس پڑھ سکتے ہیں جو یاسر شہید پر تنقید کر رہے ہیں اور ان دونوں چیزوں میں فرق نہیں کر رہے ہیں۔

اس وقت ہماری افواج کا مورال بہت نیچے ہے۔ بہت ضرورت ہے کہ اس مورال کو برقرار رکھا جائے۔ کیونکہ اگر دہشتگردوں نے فوج کے مورال کو ہرا دیا تو پھر جلد یا بدیر آپ پاکستان میں بہت سے سوات بنتے دیکھیں گے۔ سوات میں بھی یہ ہوا تھا کہ طالبان نے مورال توڑ دیا تھا اور پھر ہم نے دیکھا کہ ہماری سیاسی پارٹیوں نے بذات خود سوات کو تھالی میں رکھ کر طالبان کو پیش کر دیا تھا۔

فوج پر جتنی مرضی تنقید کریں، اسکے غلط کاموں کو برا کہیں۔۔۔۔ لیکن فوج کے مورال کو توڑنا بہت بڑی غلطی ہو گی کیونکہ فوج آپ کے پاس وہ آخری دفاعی شیلڈ ہے جو طالبان کو پورے پاکستان پر قبضہ کرنے سے روک رہی ہے۔ یقین جانیے کہ فوج کے بغیر بہت جلد آپ پورے پاکستان میں ویسی ہی خانہ جنگی چھڑتے دیکھیں گے جیسا کہ سوات میں جاری تھی۔ طالبان اس وقت فقط اور فقط فوج کے خوف سے ہی پاکستان کے دیگر شہری علاقوں پر سوات کی طرح اپنا کنٹرول کرنے کی جنگ نہیں چھیڑ رہی ہے، ورنہ اسلام آباد اور دیگر بہت سے شہروں کو طالبان اور لشکر جھنگوی وغیرہ تھوڑے عرصہ میں ہی زیر کر سکتے ہیں۔ انکے پاس کھلے اسلحے کے ڈھیر موجود ہیں اور فوج کے علاوہ کہیں اور کوئی طاقت نہیں ہے جو ان کا مقابلہ کر سکے۔

سوات میں جب طالبان کے خلاف جنگ کی اجازت ملی تو اس وقت فوج کا مورال بہت بلند ہوا، اور پھر آپ نے دیکھا کہ فوج نے کتنی کامیابی سے طالبان کو سوات سے جڑ سے اکھاڑ پھینکا۔

اسی لیے فوج سے پرسنل اختلاف ایک طرف رکھتے ہوئے یہ بات آج بہت ضروری ہے کہ فوج کا مورال بلند رہے اور اسے تباہ نہ کیا جائے۔ اس سے فقط طالبان کو قوت ملنے کے اور کچھ نہ ہو گا۔

I agree with you except point 3 that civilians are more corrupt.
Of course there is very very low rate of corruption in lower level of army but senior army officials are much more corrupt than civilians. Admiral Mansoor ul Haq is an example who took commission in billions.
Our 75% budget is for defence and a lot of money are spent on weapon deals for army in these deals army generals get commission in billions (Rs.)

Some people are trying to find reasons which would seem to minimize the sacrifice made by this young man for the nation. What matters is the courage he displayed in the face of immense odds and surprise.
Allah may shower His blessings on the martyre and elevate his darjaat. To those who are trying to minimize all I can request is "have a heart please."
I believe the government should announce some sort of civil medals for all the other shaheeds in this ominous war.

Yasir was the Duty officer that night which means that he was responsible for the security of the Base . . . He failed not because of any lack of courage as many of the people who saw him that night talked about his steadfastness . . . He failed because it was the institution that led him down . . . And I want the Institutional culprits to be given the same treatment as was given to those burning P-3Cs . . .

Madam! at least 12 billion rupees have gone down the Bin . . . . And you are saying that every thing to be put down the carpet in order to save MORALE of Armed Forces . . . .

Dear . . . Training is the only and only ladder to raise the morale and had our Armed Forces concentrated on Training than such humiliation has not fallen upon us . . . .

Second . . . whether any body agrees or not but this american imposed War is the main reason for the declining state of morale . . . Its now proven that the majority of the nation in spite of all the brain washing sessions carried out by the Americans/Pakistani Govt declares this war as the American war and is not ready to fight it and same is the case with the military . . . . .

This is a classic case of a COVER UP!!

I wont insult the deceased and may he rest in eternal peace but the Nishan-e-Haider has just lost its high merit value.
After screwing up everything else in the country the Army is out to screw up its own standards.

There should be a thorigh investigation into the debacle instead of handing out of awards so cheaply. The only thing that is going to happen has already happen and that is the changing of the Base Commander. The Amry is going to make sure every other mistake is brushed under the carpet. They are going to get some more sycophants to display stupid cheesy banners all over the city claiming 'qaumi yahjehti with fauj and ISI' and that will be the end of it.

We always call out the politicians and ask for their resignations if some ministry screws up but has anyone called for any head rolling in the army over this major debacle? 15 men wrecked havoc on a base full of hundreds of trained faujis!!
This looks right out of a Goddamn hollywood movie!!

The attackers entered from east end , crossed the airforce set up , crossed Army Aviation hangers and were able making right to the tail end to Naval set up , they planted explosive in the Naval air crafts , blew them up ,which was their target.
