I think we need to be objective and impartial in our thinking.
After the 9/11 attacks there was a consensus in the world that these attacks were unjust. The planner of the attacks was sitting in Afghanistan and the government giving him hospitality was at the time recognized by three countries Including Pakistan.
The decision to join the war on terror was in Pakistan's national interests. It is extremely easy to make comments with the benefit of hindsight. However, we fail to understand the consequence to Pakistan had we not Joined the war on terror, we would have been made the single biggest target of the world's anger at these attacks. Simply boasting about having Nuclear weapons was never going to save Pakistan.
As much as I value the patriotism and passion of Zaid Hamid for Pakistan, even his logic is absurd to say the least in this matter. He says we should have done diplomacy using China? :13:However, China had advised Pakistan to work with the USA on this matter.
Pakistan could not have gone to war with the world and some people are living in Neverland.
I have not heard a single convincing reason as to what Pakistan should have done by not Joining the war on terror?
1. Condemn the attacks, offer moral backing to the USA but have no Involvement in the war? In that case the taliban and Al qaeda would have still had justification to attack you, such people only need excuses. Even if Pakistan condemned the attacks technically they are then in the war and Al Qaeda would have seen it that way.
2. Do not condemn the attacks, say it is all a conspiracy. For god sakes we really need to grow up.
