Demonstrations were held in front of White House, United Nations, CNN Head Quarters & Pakistani Consulate - MQM USA Demonstrations were attended by a large number of MQM workers, supporters as well as the Pakistani community
Communication & Media Cell; Washington DC, May 4th, 2013; MQM USA holds peaceful demonstrations against the recent attacks on MQM offices, election candidates and target killings of workers by Taliban. The demonstrations were held to show support for the liberal and progressive parties of Pakistan who have been pushed against the wall in the upcoming general elections.
These demonstrations were held in Washington DC, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, Atlanta, San Francisco, Fort Lauderdale and Hawaii. (Scroll down to see the Pictures)
The demonstrators gathered in front of the White House in Washington DC, United Nations building in New York, Pakistani Consulate in Los Angeles and at the CNN Head Quarters in Atlanta to register their protest against Taliban attacks on MQM and liberal forces. The demonstrations were attended by Patron MQM North America Ibad ur Rehman, Central Organizer Junaid Fahmi, Joint Central Organizer Mohammad Arshad Hussain, Central Organizing committee members, Chapter In charges, workers and supporters. A large number of Pakistani ex-pats from neighboring states were also in attendance.
Pakistani and American media provided coverage for the protest, which also demanded free and fair elections in Pakistan.
Participants of these demonstrations were carrying flags of Pakistan and MQM and were chanting slogans condemning the terrorist attacks against MQM by the Taliban. They also raised their voice against deterring progressive parties from the electoral process. They carried placards with slogans reflecting their demands.
Addressing the crowd in front of the White House, Patron MQM North America, Ibad ur Rehman said that by using the Taliban to thwart the efforts of patriotic and democratic forces, Pakistan was being handed over to extremists. He stated that by targeting liberal and progressive parties of Pakistan the country was being pushed onto a path of destruction. Ibad-u-Rehman said that this would not only be detrimental for Pakistan but for the entire region. He went on to say that the International community should take notice of this conspiracy and do its part to ensure long-lasting peace, free and fair elections in Pakistan.
In Chicago, Central Organizer Junaid Fahmi addressed the gathering. He shed the light on the terrorist attacks and ongoing conspiracies against MQM. He said that founder and leader of MQM Mr. Altaf Hussain is uniting the whole Pakistani Nation for the integrity and security of Pakistan. Junaid Fehmi assured the people that MQM would never surrender to a handful of extremists and would continue to fight for the bright and secure future of Pakistan. He said that leader of MQM, Mr. Altaf Hussain has offered his unconditional support to the armed forces of Pakistan in the fight against Taliban. He further said that there is a plan to destabilize Pakistan by imposing pro-Taliban political parties in the upcoming elections. Junaid Fehmi urged Pakistanis to vote for MQM on 11th
May to ensure victory by a large majority. In this way, he said, we will defeat the extremist agenda that is threatening to take over the country.
Joint Central Organizer Mohammad Arshad Hussain addressed the participants of large demonstration in front of United Nations. He said that the care taker government and law enforcement agencies have failed to provide security to the people of Pakistan. The pro-Taliban political parties have been given free hand to hold rallies and public gatherings where the liberal forces are being targeted by Taliban during election campaign.
The enthusiasm demonstrated by all the attendees was a proof that Pakistanis would never let the extremists take over the country.
