South Korean opposition leader stabbed in the neck at press conference
The 59-year-old politician had been touring the construction site of a new airport on Gadeok Island when he was stabbed in neck during a question and answer session with reporters.
The leader of South Korea's opposition party is conscious after being stabbed in the neck with an 11 inch knife by a man who lunged at him during a press conference - with his attacker refusing to cooperate with the police.
Graphic video shows Lee Jae-myung, a left-leaning 2022 presidential candidate, being attacked during a visit to the southern port city of Busan. He was airlifted to a local university hospital, and is not considered to be in a critical condition.
The attacker was immediately wrestled to the ground and arrested, but is yet to be named and no motive has been given.
He was refusing to answer police questions about his motives, daily Busan Ilbo reported. He also refused to identify himself, according to Yonhap news agency.
The suspect was also found to have been around the site of an event Lee attended in Busan last month, Yonhap said.
