The labour wing of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) started its three-day sit-in under the Shershah Bridge on Monday to block Nato supplies to Afghanistan.
PTI chief Imran Khan is expected to visit the sit-in participants or deliver a telephonic address on its concluding day on Wednesday, according to the partys information secretary, Jamal Siddiqui.
The PTIs labour wing had given the call for the sit-in in order to block the movement of trucks carrying Nato supplies in protest over US drone attacks in Pakistans northwestern parts.
It will be our symbolic protest against US atrocities on innocent Pakistani citizens, said Subhan Sahil, president of ht PTI Labour Wing (Sindh). The people will see how PTI blocks Nato supplies. This is our seventh Dharna which will continue for three days without any break.
He said the people had been criticising them for choosing weekly days off; therefore, this time the party was starting the sit-in on the first day of the week and that would continue till Wednesday.
Carrying placards, banners and party flags, the protesters were shouting slogans against the US as well as against the Pakistan government for taking dictation from America.
We will keep protesting against the US drone strikes and until Pakistan is freed from the clutches of monsters, said President PTI Naeem-ul-Haq.
Serious traffic gridlock was witnessed in the Shershah vicinity, which also affected the main artery at Merewether Tower, as commuters were stuck up for hours in the evening. However, the situation further worsened on II Chundrigar Road, which was blocked by protesting KESC workers for hours.
