Hasina pledges to reach fruits of independence to common people
UNB, Dhaka

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said it is her profound conviction that the new generation charged with the spirit of Bangabandhu's historic speech of 7th March and being encouraged with the true history of independence would devote them to building Bangladesh.
She made the remark Friday evening at a seminar on 'Bangabandhu: 7th March' at the Engineers Institute auditorium, which was organized by Banga-bandhu Memorial Trust. Hasina reaffirmed that her government would reach the fruits of independence to the doorsteps of the common people. She said that the historic speech of March 7 by father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was unique, as "he could go for Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI), but he did not take that course. Because then he could have been branded as secessionist."
The Prime Minister said that Bangabandhu was very much conscious that the secessionist movement would not receive the support of the world leaders.
Bangabandhu was waiting to see how far the oppression of the Pakistani military rulers could go, she said. "But Bangabandhu gave all necessary directions for the liberation war in his historic 7th March speech at the Race Course maidan (since renamed Suhra-wardy Uddayan."
The Prime Minister said that on the black night of March 25, Bangabandhu conveyed the declaration of independence through wireless of the then EPR, telegram and tele-printer. In this connection, she said that there is a debate about who proclaimed the independence. "It is only Bangabandhu who proclaimed the independence, none else."
Hasina alleged that there were some Bengali officers in the Pakistani army who killed many Bangladeshis when they were putting barricades on roads in Chittagong. "Later, one of them became the proclaimer of the independence. Many Bengali officers know about this fact," she said. She also said that only Bangabadhu has the ability to declare the independence, none else. "Before the 7th March, many leaders of that time had declared independence of Bangladesh. But was Bangladesh able to gain independence?"
Hasina urged the party leaders to distribute Bangabandhu's historic 7th March speech among the young generation so they could know the real fact about the country's independence.
She claimed that the speech of Bangabandhu was the most heard speech in the world. "This speech is forever and its attraction still remains," she said.
The Prime Minister asked the new generation to remember that Bangabandhu never bowed down to anyone when it came to realizing the rights of the people.

In 1998, Colonel Syed Faruq Rahman and 14 others were convicted and sentenced to death for their involvement in the assassination. Three individuals were later acquitted, while five others in custody Syed Faruq Rahman, Mohiuddin Ahmed, Bazlul Huda, Shahriar Rashid Khan, and A. K. M. Mohiuddin Ahmed submitted appeals to the Supreme Court of Bangladesh to commute the sentence. Their final appeals to the Supreme Court were dismissed, and the men were executed on 28 January 2010 in Dhaka Central Jail. Seven fugitives remain at-large abroad.

It was his high ambitions and rigid stance that led to rebellion in East Pakistan . He riled up the Bengalis and brought an end to Pakistan 's solidarity. East Pakistan broke away."

The above statement was made by former President of Pakistan General Aga Muhammed Yahya Khan (February 4, 1917 August 10, 1980) in his secret Affidavit placed with the Lahore High Court. Twenty-seven years after his death, in December 2005 the Pakistan government released this document for public information. In this affidavit, Yahya Khan describes many sensational incidents that occurred before the 1971 war and after, during his rule. He writes of his role as President, his shortcomings, of how he was used like a pawn in a chess game. He speaks of traitors behind the scenes, of the roles played by Bhutto and Mujib, of how and why the Pakistan army cracked down on Bengalis, how far the Generals were responsible, who were behind the genocide and so on. Other than the Hamudur Rahman Commission Report of 1972, this is the only publication containing the statements of Yahya Khan, giving his version of the events of 1971.

Once the war ended, Bhutto immediately took over power and placed President Yahya Khan under house arrest. The Bhutto government treated Yahya Khan and his family ruthlessly. When General Ziaul Huq came to power in 1977, he released Yahya Khan. It was then that Yahya decided on this affidavit, to record his statements for posterity. He made this affidavit through Advocate Manzur Ahmed Rana of the Lahore High Court.

The affidavit consists of 57 pages. Before the affidavit was filed with the court, Yahya Khan carefully scrutinised each typed page in May 1978 at his house in Rawalpindi . He made a few amendments here and there and then signed the document, declaring it to be the truth.

After a long spell of illness, this military ruler finally breathed his last in August 1980 in the house of his brother Muhammed Ali in Lahore .

In his affidavit, Yahya Khan states how the government had been pushed back against the wall. Awami League President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gained immense power and Yahya Khan could not accept his attitude. He says that Mujib had brought the administration to a standstill. This was unacceptable, intolerable. This was a rebellion against the government. He says that there was no alternative to military action against this uprising. He says he did not launch Operation Searchlight on March 25, 1971 at the behest of Bhutto or anyone else. He issued these order in his capacity as President and Army Chief in order to quell the uprising.

Yahya Khan, in this document, is unwilling to accept that the cessation of East Pakistan and the surrender of the Pakistan army as a military defeat. He says this is was a naked conspiracy of India . He berates India and Russia for their role in this regard and has all gratitude for the United States and China for their support. He terms Mujib as a patriot, but says that Awami League had a section of radical leftists who were instigating him. They did not want to relinquish the opportunity to materialise India 's long cherished dream of breaking up Pakistan.

According to Yahya Khan, it was Tikka Khan who issued the orders to capture Mujib dead or alive. Bhutto had wanted to hang Mujib. Mujib was prepared to change his six-point demand if necessary. The news of America 's Seventh Fleet and China 's involvement in the war were rumours. Yahya claims that in the end he wanted to leave East Pakistan 's power in the hands of Awami League.

This cannot be correct. Patriot we just found out today that according to Mujib's daughter, current Prime Minister that Mujib was a "traitor" she confessed to it according to Pakistani Newspaper. You know Pakistani papers are always correct :lol:

What Yahya thought does not matter now for each person is responsible for their actions. Whoever did whatever is what their aimaal are and thus we judge them on the basis of facts not what they had deep in their hearts ,for I believe that if you have good in heart it shows. If you read the 6 points of Mujeeb they leave no doubt in our mind that they were seccesionist in their very nature. Bhutto no doubt played a role which only helped india and Yahya was acting like a pawn in the hands of these politicians,Why? Rest of the so called political leaders of Pakistan of the time had their share of ill will and agenda which they considered superior to that of the nations, no doubt we had a mess.
The thing to do now in my opinion is to Forgive but do not Forget. Dont forget the Biharis' left behind,Do not forget the role of the indians and Russians and never trust a single word of theirs ever, Do not forget the people who laid down their lives for Pakistan, Do not forget the killers, Also do not forget that the people of Bangladesh were hoodwinked and if possible we should still help them.

it is time that Pakistan used the Hindu Countries method of bitching and moaning to the world because lets face it the hindus cannont & would not let slip any opportunity to defame Pakistan on a wider scale in front of the world community the recent Mumbai fiasco now we find out there really were Hindus involved in that damn thing as well. we have every right to let the world know of this wicked conniving way which the hindus invaded East Pakistan and then they themselves cried to the world of foul play taking place over there. Not just that the Bengali's also must now acknowledge of what happend in 1971 just as much as Pakistani's
