The purpose of man's creation.

According to a inscription on web site www.quranicteachings.co.uk co-shared by me , the purpose of man's creation, according to the Quran is to turn his potentialities into actualities. Please consider the following three points:

1. According to 51:56, the purpose of the creation of man in 'Ibada

2. According to 2:21, the purpose of 'Ibada is Taqwa

3. According to 2:189, 3:130, and 3:200, the purpose of Taqwa is Falah

According to the above three points the ultimate purpose of man's creation is Falah.

'Ibada (when the object of the word is Allah) is compliance with the Commands of Allah with humility and submissiveness, in all walks of man's life

Taqwa is preservation from any harm, disintegration or decay

Falah is from Falahat (i.e. the practice of cultivating the land,) which is done to convert the potentialities of a seed into actualities

According to 91:8, Allah has put in man's nafs the characteristic to become disintegrated or preserved. Becoming of nafs preserved (from harm, disintegration or decay) is Taqwa. But just becoming or staying preserved is not enough. The ultimate purpose is to make it grow and develop (91:9). This is how falah will be achieved.

An Example:

You buy seeds of a crop from a seed corporation. They tell you the best method of its cultivation, maintaining, and harvesting (i.e. the best season when it should be sown, the best frequency of watering it, the best time to give the fertilizer, and the best time for harvesting). The compliance to the instructions of the seed corporation ['Ibada] results in the preservation [Taqwa] of seed from decay or harm from the pests and the conversion of its potentialities into actualities (, its best growth and development) [Falah].

Human beings are made of two entities. One is the hardware, i.e. their physical body parts. The second is the software, i.e. their 'self', 'soul', or 'spirit'. Hardware is tangible (and can be seen, touched or felt) while the software is intangible (and cannot be seen or touched and is often difficult to describe and understand). The software is really what is important and the hardware does not have any purpose in itself but just to keep hold of the software. Unfortunately, it is the hardware which is often more our centre of attention and most of the man's efforts are consumed for the well-being of the hardware. The software is often neglected. But the real purpose of man's life is the well-being and development of the software i.e. the self.

There are three phases for the well-being and development of the self.

The first is 'self-awareness', i.e. knowing one's positive and negative potentials.

The second phase is 'self-control', i.e. keeping one's negative potentials in check and control.

The third phase in 'self-development', i.e., developing one's positive potentials.

Positive potentials, among others, are the Divine attributes which man can develop in himself as much as is humanly possible.

Self-control and self-development is best possible when men lead their lives according to the Divine Guidance.

When man dies, the hardware (body) remains in this world but the software (the self) travels to another world, i.e. the world of the Hereafter (Keep in mind that when you send an email from one part of the world to another, you do not actually see it travelling but it goes there. Similarly, when man dies, you cannot see 'the self' travelling from this world to the Hereafter but it actually goes there.).

In the Hereafter, those who had developed their 'selves' well in the mortal world, will continue their lives developing themselves further on, in Paradise. However, those who had failed to develop their 'selves' well in the mortal world while attending only to their hardware/physical pleasures, they will not be able to continue their lives further, in the Hereafter. They will stagnate in Hell.
