The Quranist Playbook Exposed: How Quran-Only Claims Mislead Muslims

Qur’an-only Islam? Or just another trap in digital disguise?

A growing number of social media accounts, forum handles, and YouTube channels are posing as enlightened “truth-seekers” calling Muslims to “return to the Qur’an”. They come with dramatic slogans, stylized videos, clever hashtags, and even spiritual-looking branding.

But behind these usernames and slogans is
a network of anonymous individuals with no recognized scholarship, no ijazah, no isnād, no Arabic training — and no accountability.

They present themselves as:
  • Experts without credentials
  • Thinkers without background
  • Reformers without responsibility
And when challenged, they don’t respond with evidence. They say:

“Don’t you have ‘aql?”
“Use common sense.”

This is not scholarship. This is intellectual gaslighting dressed as Islamic reform.

They aren’t bringing you closer to the Qur’an.

They’re stripping Islam of its practice, history, and Prophetic explanation — in the name of “purity.”

It’s time to expose their tactics — clearly, calmly, and comprehensively.

The Quranist Playbook: Same slogans, recycled tricks

“We don’t follow hadith. We follow only Allah.”
“Come back to the Qur’an!”
“Hadith was written 200 years later!”

These are familiar slogans repeated again and again by self-proclaimed "Qur’an-only Muslims" who present themselves as champions of pure monotheism. But behind the emotional rhetoric lies a deliberate dismantling of core Islamic practice — and in some cases, an outright rejection of the foundations of Islam itself.

It’s time to expose the playbook, point-by-point.

  • Misusing the Word "Hadith"

What they do:

They quote verses like:
  • 45:6 “In which hadith after Allah and His verses will they believe?”
  • 77:50 "So in which hadith after it will they believe?"

What they ignore:

  • The word ḥadith in Arabic means narration/speech, not necessarily the "Hadith literature."
  • Qur’an itself calls its own message a hadith in 52:34 and 39:23:

“Allah has sent down the best Hadith: a consistent book...” (39:23)

Reality:

These verses condemn rejecting divine revelation, not all historical reports. They use a linguistic trick to mislead.

  • Claiming Islam Is "Fully Explained" in Qur’an

“The Qur’an is detailed and complete! 6:114, 16:89, 12:111”

But...
  • The Qur’an never says: "Only follow the Qur'an."
  • In fact, it says:

“And We revealed the Reminder to you [O Prophet], so that you may explain to people what has been revealed to them.” (16:44)

  • And commands us repeatedly:

“Obey Allah and the Messenger.” (4:59, 8:20, 24:54, 64:12)
“Take what the Messenger gives you and abstain from what he forbids.” (59:7)

If the Qur'an is enough without the Prophet, why are we told to obey him?

  • Attacking the Hadith Compilation Timeline

"Hadith was written 200 years later!"

Refutation:

  • The Qur'an itself was compiled and written in stages — primarily memorized.
  • Hadith was memorized and written during the Prophet's time. Eg. Sahifah of Hammam ibn Munabbih.
  • The compilation process was done carefully, with chains of narrators (isnad), critical science (al-jarh wa’l-ta’dil), and hadith categorization. No other religion has preserved teachings with this level of rigor.

  • Mocking Sacred Symbols

“Why bow to a man-made cube? Isn’t that shirk?”

This is open mockery of the Kaaba, the Qiblah ordained in the Qur’an:

“Turn your face towards al-Masjid al-Haram…” (2:144)

We, Muslims, don’t worship the Kaaba. We face it in unity as Allah commanded. Calling this "shirk" is accusing the Prophet and entire Ummah of idol-worship.

  • Discrediting All Scholars as “Abu Fulan”

"Ibn Kathir, Al-Shafi‘i? Just blind followers. We don’t need them."

Yet these same people quote fringe bloggers and YouTubers with zero Islamic training.

The hypocrisy is staggering.

Classical scholars preserved:

  • Tafsir
  • Grammar
  • Context
  • Language
  • Fiqh

We, Muslims, don’t blindly follow — we benefit from their effort. Their work is not infallible, but it’s foundational.

  • Presenting Themselves as Rational, Enlightened

"Use your intellect. Think for yourself!"

Yet when shown verses they:

  • Deny Qiblah
  • Deny Sunnah
  • Deny Prophetic explanations

This isn’t intellect. It’s intellectual arrogance masquerading as enlightenment.

  • Cherry-pick verses — but deny context and tafsir

They’ll quote:

“In what Hadith after this will they believe?” (77:50)

And claim this condemns all Hadith — ignoring that the Qur’an itself is called a Hadith in 52:34 and 39:23.

They claim:

“This day I have completed your religion…” (5:3)

…means we don’t need Sunnah, forgetting that this verse was revealed after the Prophet had already taught and practiced the religion in full public view.

  • Quranists' End Goal: Ritual-less, Prophet-less Islam

Let’s be blunt. The final destination of this movement is:

  • No Salat
  • No Zakat
  • No Hajj rituals
  • No Qiblah
  • No Sunnah

Just a vague belief in God and "good values." Is that Islam?

"Indeed, the Messenger will say, ‘My people have abandoned this Qur’an.’" (25:30)

Ironically, it is Quranists who do this, by rejecting how the Qur’an was explained and practiced by the Messenger.

Why must we, Muslims, respond

Because the youth are reading. And they deserve better than mockery, confusion, and conspiracy dressed up as reform.

This isn’t about “winning arguments.” It’s about preserving the deen — as Allah instructed us:

“Obey Allah and obey the Messenger.” (4:59)
“Let those beware who go against his command…” (24:63)

You cannot defeat this ideology with memes or mockery. You need knowledge, sources, and clarity.

Let this thread be a wake-up call. Don’t fall for empty slogans. Islam is not a DIY religion built on Google searches. It is a preserved legacy:

Qur’an ➞ Sunnah ➞ Scholarship ➞ Ummah

And that legacy will never be destroyed by hashtags, YouTubers, or anonymous usernames.

People like you should write more often here

My issue with Quran only folowers is that 1st of all they mostly dont know a lot about Quran itself, secondly, Quran only follower wont be too bad but only of they do what they say and actually follow the Quran. And if they do follow the Quran, then they will automatically know the importance of following and learning from the Practical life of our Dearest Prophet Muhammad PBUH

A majority of so-called Muslims pose questions to show where in the Quran the "Namaz's" details are found. In actuality, they are challenging Allah and accusing Him of omitting certain information from the Quran.
People who follow anything besides the Book of Allah are committing Shirk.

As received.

The greatest setback for Muslims today
is their ignorance of the Quran.
Many can recite it perfectly from memory
And all are fond of using Arabic phrases
However, any useful understanding of the
The message is very poor.
The Quran's
practical wisdom
for universal welfare and progress has
Instead have been transformed into mantras and
Rituals for individual salvation.
Is it then any
wonder that Muslims have mutated from
pioneers to stragglers
and are left behind, fractured and
confused in a turmoil of social and

economic wilderness.

The cult of anti-Quran morons:
If you deny just a few of these verses, then obviously you are anti-Quran.

As recieved.

[Quran 6:19] Say, "Whose testimony is the greatest?" Say, "God's. He is the witness between me and you that this Quran has inspired me to preach it to you and whomever it reaches. Indeed, you bear witness that there are other gods besides God." Say, "I do not testify as you do; there is only one god, and I disown your idolatry."

[Quran 6:38] We did not leave anything out of this book.

[Quran 7:52] We have given them a fully detailed scripture, with knowledge, guidance, and mercy for the people who believe.

[Quran 10:37] This Quran could not possibly be authored by other than God. It confirms all previous messages and provides a fully detailed scripture. It is infallible, for it comes from the Lord of the universe.

[Quran 12:111] In their history, there is a lesson for those who possess intelligence. This is not a fabricated Hadith; this (Quran) confirms all previous scriptures, provides the details of everything, and is a beacon and mercy for those who believe.

The basic verses of the Quran I quoted above, these Anti Quran cultists do not bother to discuss them.. They just want to beat around the bush with zero mental capacity and ability to discuss/debate with logic and intellect instead, blindly following the dogmatic traditionalist religion of mullahs and thier ancestors.
These Anti Quran cultists morons have made a mockery of the beautiful Deene' Islam with man-made books full of contradictions and filth.

For anti-Quranic cultists.

When we tell people that 'we believe the Quran alone is all we need
They will respond by claiming we have denied the Sunnah of the Messenger because God says, "Obey God and the Messenger" in the Quran
And they claim that 'obey God' refers to the Quran, and 'obey the messenger' with the books of Hadith and Sunna
So they believe 'obey God and the messenger' is to follow two different sources.
So let's study the phrase 'obey God and the messenger' from a Quranic point of view
The first Observation: The Quran always says 'obey God and the messenger'.
Never does it say 'obey the prophet' or 'obey Muhammad'.
It is always 'obey God and the messenger'
So it is important to understand what the term 'messenger' (Rasool) means.
And why did God not say 'obey the prophet (nabi)'?
Muhammad had two statuses: The status of NUBUWA (prophethood) And the status of RASOOL (messenger)
The status of NUBUWA - the word NUBUWA means 'high or elevated place'.
This means that God has chosen Muhammad, out of all the humans, to communicate with him certain news, prophecies, etc.
So the status of NUBUWA (prophet) means that a human being is communicating with God.
The status of RASOOL - God tells us the status of RASOOL in the Quran:
(5:67) O Messenger, deliver what was sent down to you from your Lord. And if you do not, then you have not delivered His message...
We see that God clearly tells us the duty of the messenger is to deliver the message of God
God also says: (24:54) ...there is nothing upon the messenger except the clear delivery...
This teaches us that the sole duty of the messenger is to deliver the message to the people
So if God did not give Muhammad the 'message', then he would not be called 'messenger' (Rasool).
So God calls him 'Rasool because Muhammad is carrying the 'message'.
What is this message that Muhammad carried? The messenger himself answers this in the Quran:
(6:19) ...this Quran has inspired me to deliver it to you and whoever it reaches...
All these verses teach us that the duty of a messenger is to deliver the message.
Muhammad, the messenger, is required to send us the Quran
So when God says "obey the messenger," we are essentially obeying the 'message' itself
Another observation: God says in the Quran (4:80) "Whoever obeys the messenger, has obeyed God..."
This means when we obey the messenger - the message - the Quran, we have in reality obeyed God

All these verses teach us that 'obey God and the messenger' is essentially obeying ONE source - the Quran
Let's assume that the Quran tells us "obey God" without mentioning obeying the Messenger. How would we do that?
This would mean that God Himself would have to come to Earth and give us the Quran directly
This, of course, is illogical
This is why we are to 'obey God and the Messenger' - because God gave Muhammad 'the message' which makes him a Messenger
And the Messenger is required to deliver it to humanity.
So this is what 'obey God and the Messenger' means from the Quran.
"Obey God and the Messenger" is essentially ONE source - the Quran.

We obey the messenger because he has the 'message'.

The Quranists! — You’ve Been Exposed

This is no longer an “intellectual discussion.” This is ideological subversion.

Let’s be honest — this isn’t about “pure Islam” or “back to the Qur’an.” It’s about hijacking Islamic forums to sow doubt, demean centuries of preserved knowledge, and strip Islam down to a vague philosophy wrapped in slogans.

And your pattern is now obvious.

Let’s break down how these Quranists operate:

1.

They reject named scholars with chains of knowledge, yet operate under usernames like Citizen X and Wake up Pak , etc. — hiding behind handles while throwing labels like “blind followers” at others.

2.

Wake up Pak has posted 5+ walls of “As received” material in a single thread — with no authors, no isnād, no references. You don’t even own your own arguments.

This isn’t da’wah. This is ideological spam.

3.

You’re not inviting to Qur’an. You’re mocking the Ummah.

4.

You twist verses like 6:114, 45:6, and 77:50 — ignoring the actual Arabic, the tafsir, the Asbab al-Nuzul (context of revelation), and how the Prophet (PBUH) explained them.

Who are you trying to fool?

You post:

“We only obey Allah!”

Yet the Qur’an says:

- “Obey Allah and the Messenger.” (4:59, 24:54, 64:12)

- “Take what the Messenger gives you and abstain from what he forbids.” (59:7)

- “We revealed the Reminder to you, so that you may explain to the people what was sent down to them.” (16:44)

That’s not “postman delivery.” That’s explanation, implementation, and preservation. It’s the Sunnah. It’s Islam.

A Message to Readers — Especially the Youth:

Don’t fall for these tricks. This is a coordinated playbook:

  • Mock ritual.
  • Dismiss Hadith.
  • Reject scholars.
  • Quote the Qur’an without Sunnah or tafsir.
  • Claim intellect as the only guide.
  • Pretend to “debate,” then flood the forum with noise.
They aren’t here for sincere learning or reform. They’re here to confuse you. They want you to think that 1,400 years of Islam is man-made — while they, behind a keyboard, have figured out “the true Islam.”

And finally — let’s set the record straight:

Enough deflection. Enough spam. Enough hiding behind handles.

Citizen X , Wake up Pak , and other Quranists on this forum,

If you stand by your beliefs — then stand behind them with your name, your evidence, and your scholarship.

Otherwise, kindly stop pretending you're here to educate Muslims, when your only goal is to undermine their deen.

Islam is not a DIY religion cobbled together from Google searches and TikTok videos.

It is a preserved revelation, explained by the Messenger (PBUH), and transmitted by the Ummah.

The word “SUNNAH” appears 14 times in the Qur'ân. Every time

Sunnah refers to the unchanging process of Allâh’s practices/ actions only and nothing else. In other
words, it is the Qur’ânic term for the totality of Natural Laws instituted by Allâh, the Rabb of
everything in existence! Nowhere does the word Sunnah in the entire Qur’ân refer to
Muhammad’s ways or sayings in the way that is understood by the vast majority of Muslims.
IN THE ENTIRE QUR’ÂN, HADÎTH APPEARS A TOTAL OF 28 TIMES. Nowhere does this word
refer to the sayings and practices of Muhammad in any way. The word is defined clearly in the

Qur’ân as the Book of Allâh (39-23; 45-6; 68-44, etc).

Wake up Pak

I have been answering your fellow Quranist, Citizen X 's propaganda post.

Let’s call this what it is:

  • You ask for Qur’an — you get it.
  • You ask for prayer details — you get it from Hadith.
  • Then you reject Hadith.
  • Then you quote the Qur’an again — but redefined by you.
  • Then you deny the very role of the Prophet (PBUH).

So let’s stop pretending this is a conversation. It’s not.

It’s a performance.

---

You’ve already made up your mind. The only thing you want from others is surrendernot dialogue.

But here’s what you, Quranists, can’t erase:

  • Muslims still pray five times a day — because the Prophet (PBUH) showed them how.
  • Muslims still fast in Ramadan — because the Prophet (PBUH) demonstrated it.
  • Muslims still face the Kaaba — because Allah commanded it and the Prophet practiced it.
  • And Muslims still quote Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood, and the great scholars — not memes and TikToks.

---

You’re not defending the Qur’an.
You’re weaponizing it against the very person it was revealed to — the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

That’s not reform. That’s rejection.

So no — I won’t be playing your “now quote this” game anymore.

You’ve been answered.
You’ve been corrected.

You’ve been exposed.

  • And Muslims still quote Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood, and the great scholars — not memes and TikToks.

You’re not defending the Qur’an.
You’re weaponizing it against the very person it was revealed to — the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

That’s not reform. That’s rejection.

So no — I won’t be playing your “now quote this” game anymore.

You’ve been answered.
You’ve been corrected.

You’ve been exposed.
You failed to answer. Just typing in big and bold fonts won't convince anyone. Your fabricated books couldn't even give you the exact method of Namaz.
You’ve failed to answer.
You’ve been wronged.

You’ve been exposed.

This Quran has been revealed to me that I may warn you…
6 The Cattle, 19

15 – When Our clear signs are recited to them, those who do not hope to meet Us say, “Bring a Quran other than this, or change it.” Say “It is not for me to change it of my will. I follow only what is revealed to me.”

10 Jonah, 15

This is a Book We have sent down to you that you may lead people out of darkness into the light, by their Lord’s will, to the path of the Mighty, the worthy of praise.

What are your credentials?

What authority do you have to claim “the verse doesn’t mean this or that”?

You’re hiding behind an internet handle, dismissing centuries of scholarship, and yet you demand to be taken seriously?
