Worlds First Airplane History

When we think of the airplane the first name that click in our minds is the Wright Brothers. The Wright brothers were two American Brothers (Wilbur and Orville) who are generally credited with building, inventing and flying worlds first airplane successful.

They are also known as an aviation pioneer because they developed innovative technology, inspired imaginations around the world and become legendary heroes.

They shared an aptitude for science and intellectual curiosity, at a time when the possibility of airplane looks like a dream.

On December 17 1903, they piloted the first powered airplane 20 feet above a wind-swept beach at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

The flight covered 120 feet and lasted in 12 seconds. On the similar day some more flights were made over a distance of 852 feet, which was lasted around 59 seconds.

The Wright Brothers Early Background:
Wilbur and Orville Wright grew up in Dayton, Ohio and developed a strong interest in aviation after learning the glider flights of Otto Lilienthal (who was a German engineer) in 1890s.

Apart from aviation interest, they also possess a sophisticated approach and some extraordinary technical abilities to solve problems in mechanical designs.

In 1982 they opened a bicycle repair and sales shop (named as- the wright cycle exchange) which was later become the Wright cycle company.

Later in 1986 they started to manufacture their own brand. They use this endeavor to fund their passion of building the worlds first airplane.

The First Glider test:
The wright brothers wrote the US weather Bureau inquiring about a suitable place to conduct a glider tests, after exhaustively researching other engineers efforts to build a heavier than air controlled aircraft.

They decided on kitty Hawk an isolated village in North Carolina, which offered sand dunes and steady winds for a soft landing. In 1900, they performed their first glider test.

Unfortunately the first test was turned out bad. But later in 1901 they tested a new design with modified features which was turned out more successful.

In the same year they build a wind tunnel where they tested around 200 airframes and wings of various designs and shapes.

At kill Devils Hills near kitty Hawk, their systematic experiments paid off and they flew hundreds of successful flights.

The movable rudder and steering system have solved many problems reported in their previous flights and now they were ready to take a big step towards the powered plane.

First powered Airplane:
With the assistance of a machinist Charles Taylor, the Wright Brothers designed a 12 horsepower internal combustion engine in Dayton and built a new aircraft to house it.

In the autumn of 1903, they transported their aircraft in pieces to kitty Hawk and on December 14 Orville made the first attempt at powered flight. In the presence of 5 witnesses the aircraft ran down a monorail track, take off into the air, flying 120 feet and staying aloft for 12 seconds.

After the successful powered flight demonstrations, the modern aviation age was born. For the couple of years, the wright brother further designed their planes.

In 1908, they made their first public flights and arouse widespread public excitement.

In 1909, the Wright brothers founded the Wright company to build and market their airplanes.

The US army signal corps also purchased a specially constructed plane and since the legacy of aviation of is revitalizing with each passing day.

Presently, the first historic aircraft of wright brothers is on display at the national air and space museum in Washington DC.
