?CANADA ANNOUNCES AID TO PALESTINIANS IN GAZA & WEST BANK ?
Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced $25 million for Palestinians in Gaza & the West Bank through the United Nations (UN) agencies & other organizations.
??? $10 million for urgent food assistance, shelter, water, sanitation, hygiene, and mental health supports for the most vulnerable, including children.
? $10 million for humanitarian & rebuilding efforts, such as medical infrastructure and measures to help families earn a living.
? $5 million for peacebuilding initiatives, towards a 2 state solution where an independent Palestinian ?? state lives side by side to Israel.
This support builds on ??‘s global ? humanitarian leadership to support Palestinians - for example, the UK in recent days announced £3.2 million in aid.
In December 2020, Canada committed $90 million to respond to needs of vulnerable Palestinian refugees. The Trudeau government also reestablished funding to Palestinian refugees through UNRWA.
And yesterday at the UN Human Rights Council, ?? called on ?? to stop illegal settlement expansion, stating:
“Canada calls on Israel to stop settlement activities, including those in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. These activities are a violation of international law and must cease. Canada reiterates that it does not recognize permanent Israeli control over territories occupied in 1967.”
