Is the Urdu Speaking community the most educated community in Pakistan?

I hear it again and again that the Urdu speaking community is the most educated community in Pakistan. Is it true?

As an Urdu speaker myself, I beg to differ. I know it used to be a fair assertion but it might not be true anymore. It might be accurate if you take into consideration the Urdu speaking Pakistanis all over the world but it seems unlikely that it would stand correct for the Urdu speaking residing in Pakistan.

The state of Karachi is so bad that a lot of educated middle class people have emigrated to other countries. This includes myself. There are families in the west who have moved in masses. That is, all the siblings and uncles'/aunts' families have emigrated from Pakistan. Even if the entire family has not moved then the bread winners have emigrated in search of work and a decent life. Basically, any one who had the resources to emigrate, did it. Usually, (not in all cases) the people with resources are the educated ones. There has been a mass emigration from Karachi because of the peace and order situation of the city.

I really doubt that the resident Urdu speaking community is the most educated one in Pakistan, as compared to other ethnicities. It is very easy to get fake degrees and certificates in Karachi. The statistical data could be a manipulated one. Due to the peace and order situation of the city, a lot of people don't even physically go to colleges and universities. They choose to study from home (except for professional schools). The appointments of professors in universities are on a political basis. Even if the kids graduate from universities, the resourceful ones have relatives outside pakistan who invite them for further education in their immigrated countries. More often than not, the middle class kids end up staying in the country that offered them student visa. Trust me, it is very difficult to go back to Karachi if you have experienced a peaceful life outside Paksitan.

Lets take into consideration other realities. Look at the current representatives of MQM on TV. Except for a few handful of them, they can't even speak urdu properly. Asking them to speak in english, would be like exercising torture on the language. Some of them are so called doctors who can't speak English properly.

We all have observed the supporters of MQM on this forum. We all have experienced their language and use of inappropriate words. Not all but most of them can't communicate in English properly. With the exception of few, they can't even decently communicate in urdu effectively. I know that my English is also not good and needs a lot of improvement too but I am still better than the majority of the MQM supporters on this forum. Most importantly, I don't claim to be the most educated member of this forum.

My Urdu speaking community used to lead in literature, arts and culture in Pakistan. That's not the case anymore.

I seriously doubt that my community is the most educated one of Pakistan, anymore. I think that if there is any statistical data, it is manipulated by the fake degrees and certificates. It's either that or rest of the Pakistan is even worse than the Urdu speaking community.

Problem with you guys that why you only consider MQM and Urdu speaking. Why dont you vomit on Punjabi, Sindhi and pashto community. When you have pain you curse MQM when you have constipation you curse MQM. If Urdu speaking like and vote MQM then whats wrong with people of punjab and any other community.

Thanks for proving my point that I mentioned in my original post.
BTW you have not answered the questions that I raised in another tread.
Did you even pass metric? Which school did you go to, in karachi?

I know what you mean but that's the data that I am questioning. The map shows 80% literacy. This includes all the ethnicities. The mass emigration of people from FATA and KPK, in the recent years, alone would make this 80% figure dubious. There are people from different rural areas of Pakistan in Karachi. Karachi is a mini Pakistan. 80% seems too high. Also, need to know the definition of "literate," used for this map. Is it metric pass? 5th grade pass? Or the people who can write their names?

Urdu is our National language I will not consider urdu speaking people as a community. about if Urdu speaking people are more educated is a bit difficult as most of the urdu speaking people specially from karachi are punjabi, sindhi, baloch, pathan, marwari, behari etc etc as they are living in karachi for so long that there main language became urdu.

My parents came from India but they are were pathans we speak urdu at home but that will not make me urdu speaking :). In my opinion educated people are in all communities its difficult to guess who are more educated.

The definition of literate in Pakistan is "the one who can secure govt. jobs with the help of MAMA CHACHA and SADA BANDA culture and since the people living in Karachi and speak Urdu in their homes do not have that capability, they are NOT literates. This is what I understood from Mr. Thread Starter.

By urdu speaking, I don't mean the people who literally speak urdu. I mean the "mohajir" who MQM claims to represent. However, your point is valid and noted.

If Nawaz Sharif+Shahbaz Sharif didn't do rigging in elections 2013 and won on real votes than definitely karachiites also gave votes to MQM. We have to respect the mandate.

Actually, your assertion is not accurate because there are lots of political appointments in sindh/karachi police. It is well documented and discussed that MQM has used its "parchi, MAMA CHACHA and SADA BANDA" culture to get jobs for it supporters in police.

Also, Babar Ghauri was a minister of ports and shipping for ages. You will see a lot of MQM supporters in that department. Furthermore, knowing the culture in Pakistan, it's unreasonable to assume that Governor of Sindh, who is an MQM politician, doesn't use his power to get governmental jobs for the MQM supporters.

@Sher_Khan, brother, you are yourself Urdu Speaking Pakistani and you left Pakistan.
If you were not educated , how could you have gone outside Pakistan? Urdu Speaking
Pakistanis have advantage of Urdu as their mother tongue. Moreover, Urdu Speaking
does not mean only MQM supporters or the leaders of MQM.

"Urdu Speaking Pakistanis are loyal and honest Pakistanis," said Imran Khan.

As someone who works in Karachi, you can not get government and higher post jobs without parchi from either MQM or PPP. I, and those in my circle, know people who have been hired due to links, some without merit, others rarely show up to work or don't work but still collect checks.

Back to the main argument, it doesn't matter whether Urdu speaking community is the most educated. Being anti-feudal or "educated mandate" are arguments made by MQM to somehow justify the negatives in their policies. Educated or not, it doesn't give MQM a free hand at violence and mafia behavior. And being educated doesn't automatically mean that you'll make the right decisions and are sincere toward the well being of community and nation. Israelis are more educated than those in Gaza, Nazi Germans were more educated than their victims, and American Republicans are also educated by Pakistani standards, but we all know about their terrible decision making.

Most of MQM propaganda can be decimated, but Pakistani media is scared to challenge the usual BS that is spouted by MQM officials on TV: educated, anti-feudal, liberal party etc. The same liberal party whose leader never fails to make threats against free speech of journalists, one among many examples. Even discussing about these hypocrites is mental torture.

Sir (Mr Fake Karachiite) from all your past posts on Siasat.pk, one can easily understand that you are a PTI supporter and belongs to Mujra family (I mean Punjabi Paindoo Family). Whatever propaganda you will do but you cannot deny the fact that Urdu Speaking community is the most educated community in Pakistan and will stay forever, Insha'Allah.

Tum loog bus ghar main mujre aur dance parties he kerwa sakte ho....education tum loogon ke bus ki baat nahin he....aur ager kabhi education hasil kerne ka mood he tu Karachi move ho jana phir dekhna education lene aur mujre kerwane main kitna farqa hota he. Ager tumhare parents aur tum khud educated nahin ho aur abhi tak mujre ker k hi rozi kamate ho tu is main Urdu community ka kia qasoor he....Apni yeah raam stories kisi paindoo ko hi suniya karo....by the way Mujre kerne main aap paindoo loogon ki duniya main koi misal nahin he.....Yes, I agree with you, you are the champions of Mujra and Dance Parties.....
Mr Fake Karachiite, I hope you understand.

LOL 10 out of 10 for your effort to provoke. Better luck next time. Your choice of words really depict just exactly how much education has had an impact in your life LOL

BTW just exactly how many APMSO guys were standing at the door of the examination hall to make sure that no one interrupts you and your comrades copying answers from text books to examination sheets?

MQM has nothing to do with Urdu Speaking community. I am Urdu speaking fellow and as far as I know in my more than 90 percent of the people in my family relatives colleagues and all support PTI and not MQM. MQM has just used the word Urdu Speaking people and give us a bad name....that is completely unfair with the Urdu speaking community
