Because there had been growing concerns in the establishment as well as the west that this PDM Govt will only hasten the disaster. They are not able to control the economy and on the other hand, their abuse of power is going to cost the state in the longer run.
Remember, the seat of the PM comes with certain powers. Boot mafia cannot really step into each and every affair of theirs. This Rana Tigerina had been using the Police, FIA and other institutions under him to create an upheaval. Although, this also had an initial nod from the establishment because they wanted IK to learn his lesson. A lesson that he has to forego the accountability narrative of his, or otherwise, in Pakistan, it is going to cost him when he will be out of power. He will be politically victimized.
The establishment had always been stressing on IK to leave and forget what happened in the past and look forward, but IK kept hung over the accountability of the past issue.

It’s because a nation’s past is always connected with its present and its future. Imran Khan’s stance is correct. If forgetting the past helped, then Musharaf’s NRO would have made Pakistan progress. Instead it regressed massively.

It could've been an option, had the PDM Govt not been acting like a scumbag.
1- They are literally dooming Pakistan by delaying the IMF deal
2- They are increasing the public rage against the State Institutions by abuse of their power.

One can have arguments for and against this. However, the way IK was carrying out this accountability was not the perfect way of doing it. The Ehtisab Cell in KPK was closed for the sake of saving Khattak. The corruption done by Buzdar and JKT etc were not really looked into.
So, prima facie, it also appeared that IK was using this narrative of his to annihilate his political rivals. But it is an opinion, many in the establishment have. The reality is that:

This system is rotten to the core. IK himself know that he had to gather support from the same quadrant of corrupts who used to be in other parties before, just to get to the throne. Otherwise, this system will never let him get to the top.

But this is a very thin wire to tread upon. Anyone (specially India) can use this weakness to wreak a havoc, like in 1971.
