A few weeks ago, when the Sicilian mafia was trying to buy parliamentarians and was hiding them in the Sindh house then the sitting government filed a reference in the Supreme Court to stop Horse Trading by clarifying disqualifications of lotas. The court's inaction resulted in rising sentiments among people who intern attacked the Sindh house. The court took notice of the attack but looked the other way at what the Sicilian mafia was trying to achieve – topple a sitting government using lotas.
To parliament, a court must provide a level playing field, but it went beyond its jurisdiction and interfered in parliament’s affairs. It decreed when and what parliament should do without addressing the root cause of the turmoil – lotas.
What was the intent of the court to open the courts at midnight – impose a judicial martial law?
Topple a sitting government?
Looking back, it is obvious that the court pave way for the mafia to topple a sitting government in the center as well as in Punjab and installed those who evaded courts all these years.
It was a poor judgment on part of the Chief Justice to listen to Shahbaz Sharif in the Supreme Court knowing that the man has corruption charges but has been evading courts for years. Why the Chief Justice didn’t have the guts to ask the man who was praying for democracy in the country to explain why he has been evading courts?
Now when the will of the people has spoken that the Supreme court was wrong, I wonder how it is going to undo what it did?
To me, it must go beyond a mere sorry. It must take back its judicial martial law actions.
It must disqualify for life anyone involve in Horse Trading and reverse actions that resulted in the toppling of government using lotas.
