By S R Khan
KARACHI: The confrontation between the Sindh government and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is likely to be deepening further in upcoming days, as the government has decided to take control of the major parks of the metropolis from KMC administration, it is learnt here. The reliable sources informed National Courier that the concerned authorities had prepared a draft through which the control of the major parks of the metropolis would be taken from KMC administration. The sources informed this scribe that the government had planned to take control of parks include Bagh Ibne Qasim, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Park located in Boat Basin Area, Jahangir Park in Saddar, Beach Park in Clifton and Frere Hall Park. The sources further informed that Malik Riaz, a business tycoon and owner of Bahria Town Icon Tower is interested in adopting Bagh Ibne Qasim for valuing his project more, as the park is located adjacent to his project and the KMC administration has already refused his offer for adopting the Bagh Ibne Qasim and the business tycoon had opted another way and contacted to the authorities of government for his proposal adding that the provincial government had given “green-signal” against his offer. The rift between government and KMC administration would certainly increase in next few days and the said step of the provincial government would further curtail the powers of elected Mayor.
