Pat on the back: Rewards to be linked with performance, says K-P IGP

PESHAWAR: The process of rewards and punishment in the police force will continue and officers will be given posts of their choice, but their performance will be strictly monitored, said IGP Nasir Khan Durrani on Thursday.

Addressing policemen receiving training at the Police Training Centre, Hangu, he said the age for promotions has been increased from 33 to 40 years for constables and every constable who has passed the B-1 exam will be sent for the training course leading to a promotion.​

“The government has already decided to increase the salaries of police officials in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to the level of the Punjab police. Moreover, officials of the bomb disposal squad and counter-terrorism department will be given Rs5,000 allowance,” he said, adding he was doing everything he could to provide the best facilities to the police force.​

Minister seeks 14pc share for KP in ADP

PESHAWAR: KhyberPakhtunkhwa Senior Minister Siraj-ul-Haq has accused the federal government of committing injustices with the smaller provinces in the distribution of resources.
Speaking at an oath taking ceremony of Abasin Column Writers Association at Peshawar Press Club on Friday, the minister alleged that the exploitation against smaller units by the federation was still continuing, adding that this attitude needed to be shunned.
The minister administered oath of office to the new cabinet of the association.

Mr Haq said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa deserved to get 14.6 per cent of the total Annual Development Programme against the current 1.7 per cent. He said that the “injustices” had caused serious unrest among the people of the neglected provinces.

KP to have industrial estate management

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zone(s) and Industrial Estates Development and Management Company, which is in the phase of establishment, has an ambitious agenda from establishing and managing industrial estates to overseeing hydel power generation units along corporate lines.
An official of the provincial government told Dawn that the company, first of its kind in the public sector across the country, would be allowed to set up corporate entities including power generation, distribution, transmission, purchase, and sale for fulfilling its objectives: the establishment and management of new economic zone(s) and industrial estates in the province apart from managing any of the existing estate(s) if handed over to it.
“It’s a new initiative for which inspiration has been taken from the government of Punjab, but without paying attention to creating an atmosphere conducive to industrialisation,”said an official concerned.

To be set up with an authorised capital of Rs500 million and the initial paid-up capital of Rs100 million, the company had originally been conceived by the previous elected provincial government with inspiration taken from the Punjab Industrial Estate Development and Management Company, a public-private partnership aiming to ‘achieve orderly, planned and rapid industrialisation’ in Punjab.

“Out of a total around 700 industrial plots at the Sundar industrial estate, hardly around 105 industrial plots have functional manufacturing units and the rest are vacant,” said the official, bringing under question the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s decision to set up a public company of its own.
