PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau on Wednesday arrested a former secretary to the chairman of the Higher Education Regulatory Authority (Hera) for allegedly depositing public money in his personal bank account.
Gulzar Ali didn’t properly maintain the accounts related record of the authority in order to hide his malpractices, said a statement issued here on Wednesday.
NAB makes more arrests in WWB scam PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday arrested Abdul Waheed Qureshi, a project officer of the Workers Welfare Board (WWB) for scholarship fraud.
The NAB KP also arrested two other accused, including Muhammad Asghar Awan, an owner of Ashraf Enterprises/Litigation Officer of the UBL State Life Building Branch and Manzoor Ahmad Ghauri, partner in the Ashraf Enterprises, for their alleged involvement in a huge loss caused to the exchequer. They allegedly supplied substandard equipment for science labs, stationery items, uniform, etc at highly exorbitant rates with the name of fake firms, without adopting genuine bidding procedure.
Anti-encroachment drive launched in Galiyat ABBOTTABAD: The Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) took action against the influential people in Nathiagali town during the first day of its anti-encroachment drive and removed encroachments near 14 buildings that have encroached upon land beyond their limits. Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, Sardar Khursheed and Sardar Sajjad, generalstore owners in Mochi Dhara Bazaar, Nathiagali, said authorities had marked over 150 shops, 70 eateries and two mosques for destruction. They added owners had been ordered to demolish the encroached spaces voluntarily within seven days. The officials of the GDA took action against the encroachers with the help of local administration and the police. Nazar Hussain Shah told this correspondent that they successfully launched the long-awaited anti-encroachment drive in Galiyat and it would continue till the removal of all the encroachment. He said that nobody would be spared and action would be taken against all the encroachers. It is worth mentioning here that value of land in and around Nathiagali is around Rs20 million per kanal, which is the most expensive residential place in Pakistan. Many influential people have got allotted landed in their name and constructed property on lease at throwaway prices. A senior official of local administration said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was taking interest to make Nathiagali encroachment-free.
He said the PTI head held at least three meetings with GDA officials at his Bani Gala house in Islamabad during the past few weeks.
