The main point is Urdu was never native to the Pakistani nation not even pre partition India and forced on the population by the British, and the concept of having one national language which majority of the population doesn't speak or understand is ridiculous.

The only language that is prevalent and understood widely is urdu - it is the only lingua franca that binds the whole fabric of this nation together - 25 trah k punjabi dialect hai, and so are pashtos, to what's wrong in having one common language... indian main kia farsi boli jati hai.. how much of hindi is native language of indian ppl, the whole discussion is absurd like many other posts that you've sharing on this forum. Nothing, but the problem here is its not as common as you think it is.

And that is where one of the problem lies, because you cannot receive any kind of higher education in Urdu simply because the language does not support it. So after years learning in Urdu, now late in their school life, students have to switch to a totally new language and that is where you can see out education system fail. This doesn't happen anywhere else in the world, where you start off school in one language and then switch to another.

Also most of the people who claim to be "native urdu speakers" who migrated from across the border actually also never spoke Urdu as their native language was mostly Awadhi, Bhojpuri, Marwari, Haryanvi, Bihari so on and so forth. Go read some history it was in the 1830's that the British replaced Farsi with Urdu as the official language of government offices and of the lower courts. And then according to their humiliate, divide and rule policy they fanned the flames of hindu extremists that Urdu is for Muslims and Hindi for Hindus and Hindi should replace Urdu this actually created a lot of protests and agitation.

His mother tongue was gujrati and he was educated in English, so not surprising at all.
