ISLAMABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Friday formally announced its support for the nomination of Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) for the office of the opposition leader in the Senate, DawnNews reported.


On behalf of the MQM, Senator Tahir Hussain Mashhadi submitted an application supporting Mr Haideri to Secretary Senate Raja Amin.


The application had signatures from six senators.Speaking to media representatives, Mr Amin confirmed receiving the application and stated that the JUI-F now had support from 18 members of the Senate.


Senate Chairman Farooq H. Naek had appointed JUI-F Secretary General Haideri as the opposition leader in June.


At the time, the nomination was widely criticised by opposition senators, including by senate members from the MQM.

Seven killed in Karachi during 12 hours

Seven people have been killed in Karachi over the last 12 hours.

Sajid Khan, Zahid Hussain and Jehanzaib were killed in firing by unknown assailants in Baldia Town, Saeedabad. In another incident, Jawad, 22, was shot dead while he was sitting in front of his house. Another man was shot dead when his car was fired on by unknown motorcyclists at Mai Kolachi Road.

On the other hand, exchange of fire in Lyari has stopped, but the atmosphere remained tense overall.

When we talk about IK, jew wife and affairs- u people say, do not talk about past and now u talking about past of NS.

If someone accepts wrong doing, we should fogive and look towards future. One wrong doing can not justify other. If NS was with ISI, it does not give right to IK to be with ISI.

PML-N knew Dr. Ebad would resume office

Updated at: 1956 PST, Monday, July 18, 2011 LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-N Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal reacting to the MQM’s decision to have Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad resume office as Sindh Governor, said that his party knew this would happen. Talking to Geo News Ahsan Iqbal said that MQM ministers should also return to their posts. He added that it was difficult to sit in the opposition and the PPP and MQM should stop acting and not play games with the people. It is pertinent to mention here that MQM and PML-N had announced that they would work together as a joint opposition.
