LAHORE: Law enforcement agencies on Thursday recovered American aid expert Warren Weinstein from Khushab, Express 24/7 reported.
Sources said that an operation had been launched to rescue Weinstein today. There are reports of suspects being taken into custody during the operation.
The United States (US) Consulate in Lahore and police in Khushab have so far not confirmed the recovery of Weinstein.
Intelligence agencies had earlier claimed to have traced the man who had masterminded the kidnapping of the aid expert from an upscale neighbourhood in Lahore.
Express 24/7 correspondent Muhammad Rizwan reported DPO Khushab had said he was not aware of an operation being carried out for the recovery of Weinstein.
Weinstein, 70, country director for US-based consultancy J E Austin Associates, was snatched from his home before dawn on August 13.
Six to eight assailants had broken into his house and abducted him after overpowering the security guards.
Police said the gunmen had barged into the house on the pretext of sharing a meal with the guards. The attackers then forced Weinsteins driver to knock on his bedroom door. When he opened it, they took him.
Weinsterin had been due to return to the United States after concluding his contract on private-sector development and economic growth.
